There's so much coming up soon that it's honestly hard to keep up. Our Sat/Cell collars will be coming online in November, and to support them we've built a feature-rich dashboard — Sentinel Atlas — that provides all sorts of information about a collared animal: current position, distance traveled over time, approximate home range (including separate winter and summer ranges for migratory animals), battery outlook, and alerts the moment a collar reports a mortality or goes quiet.

It also handles the real life of a collar: when a collar is recovered from a mortality and redeployed on a new animal, Sentinel Atlas keeps each animal's record separate and complete — the first animal's story stays exactly as it was.

If you're planning a capture program and want to see it working, message us here — we're happy to walk you through a live demo.

Note: the location data in these images are simulated. However, the odds of finding an animal in that spot aren't zero though. 😉

Trail camera technology keeps moving — and so does our depth estimation software. 📷

Introducing Dual Lens Calibration!

Dual lens cameras use one sensor for day images and another for night, and subtle differences in lens choice, image size, and sensor position mean the two image sets don't quite line up. Our depth estimation software now calibrates for both — so every image is fully supported, no matter which sensor captured it.

We put it to the test on a CSV of images with bounding boxes already in place, and the software estimated the distance to every animal while also reporting which sensor each image came from: 2,146 images in total — 916 of them from the secondary (night) sensor.

The best part? Once calibrated, those 2,146 images took just 3.75 seconds to analyze. ⚡

Day or night, your distance data is covered.

Trying to balance exposure.

Here's another look at why clear sightlines matter for your trail setup. In the first video, the low light forced the internal flash to kick on, lighting up those pesky foreground branches so brightly that the camera dropped the background exposure right into the shadows. You might think that extra branch is doing a great job hiding your gear, but all it really does is blind the sensor and ruin the shot you're actually after.

In the next video, the ambient light was doing the heavy lifting without needing the flash. You can easily make out the evening pumpkin eaters in this one. I wonder which one is Peter?

Another great day of testing!

Our newest "collar" (which is tucked into that pod on the hood of our favourite little test rig) is seamlessly transitioning from terrestrial cellular communication to satellite communication and back again as required during field testing. This dual communication method allows us to provide the most cost effective and reliable position tracking available.

There's still lots of work to do, but seeing it in action is very exciting.

With the fires currently burning in BC, it's unclear whether we'll be able to attend the August Wild Sheep Society of British Columbia count at the Junction site. If there's a path, we'll be there.

Leveraging the M.ovi collars to help pinpoint the sheep for accurate lamb and ewe counting is proving to be very helpful. We've even got one more trick up our sleeve to try this time too, so let's hope we can make it.

Our thoughts are with the thousands of people affected by these wildfires too. Fire on the landscape can be very beneficial, but saving lives and homes has to come first.

This one has taken us a while to decide on.

We know painfully well the sinking feeling of pulling a trail camera after weeks, months, or even years, in the field only to discover corrupted files or a failed card. Your time, your effort, and your data are incredibly valuable, and the true cost of an inferior product is so much more than the price tag of a cheap memory card.

Amidst the current memory shortages, Wild Eyes Monitoring Solutions has taken action to secure a reliable supply for the camera trapping community. We’ve partnered with a premium manufacturer to launch our own line of branded SD cards, engineered specifically to keep up with the demands of high speed trail cameras.

32GB high-speed cards are available now, while 128GB and 512GB capacities will be coming soon for long term, high volume deployments in cameras or ARUs.

These cards are specifically built for the field, because we understand that your data is everything. Secure your card supply and protect your hard work.

It's time to start building the 2027 M.ovi sheep collars. We've added a bit more visibility to them this year to try and help the field teams quickly identify which sheep are already collared.

This is a pretty exciting image. It shows the location of a prototype cell/sat collar that we've been working on for quite some time. This collar has the ability to communicate its location via local terrestrial cellular towers when available, or, via satellite if there is no cellular coverage. It's close... so close.

Our Smart Beacon collars are designed to drop off once their use on the Fraser River M.ovi Test and Remove project wraps up for the year. It looks like they're working as expected.

Thankfully, most have stayed on the sheep long enough to assist the Wild Sheep Society of British Columbia with their lamb/ewe count this weekend.

It's like Easter egg hunting for grown ups... and you get told where the eggs are.

🌲 614 DAYS IN THE FIELD. 🌲

Talk about a marathon! A field team just serviced a Wild Eyes KW698A trail camera that, due to logistics, hadn't been accessed for service in over 20 months.

Here is a look at the jaw-dropping numbers from this single deployment:

Total Images Captured: 38,561

☀️ Day Images: 33,682

🌙 Night Images: 4,879

💾 Storage Used: 28.6 GB (Cutting it close on a 32GB SD card!)

🔋 Battery Status: Still functioning.

The secret to this kind of longevity? A perfect storm of efficiency. The extremely low power draw of the KW698A dual lens camera paired with the high-capacity Wild Eyes 3500mAh LiFeS2 lithium batteries makes this the ultimate combination for serious, long-term remote wildlife monitoring.
