SMOKEY SKIES!

A large Forest Fire complex near Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan is sending plumes of smoke Southeastward today as the winds are out of the Northwest. Areas that will be affected the most from the smoke will be Western and Southwestern Manitoba before the winds shift to a Southerly direction tomorrow blowing the smoke back northward.

firesmoke.ca also shows that there is a complex of fires burning across SW Manitoba with one near the City of Brandon as well causing smoke in the area but I'm not sure how accurate that is?

Wow... If there was ever a photo that describes our Winter in February the best...,
THIS is that photo!!

Extreme Cold Warnings pretty much span 4 Provinces wide across Western Canada, The Prairies, and Northwestern Ontario...

An image that bites!

Here's a visual of what I mean when I say a pattern change will occur after this system passes through tonight...

Wind chills Monday AM will be approaching -35°c across parts of Western Manitoba and approaching -45°c across the far north... Saskatchewan won't be faring much better either...

Don't fear though this will only be short-lived as pacific energy spills across the Rockies Tuesday and Wednesday which in turn warm us up again mid and late week...

A taste of what may be to come as we get into January, February, and March if La Nina can get it's act together!

Looking over some model data for later today (this evening) there does appear to be a small window of opportunity for severe thunderstorms to develop across Southwestern Manitoba (6-10pm).

These storms if they develop could be discrete storms and pose a risk for all severe weather hazards including a tornado.
We will have to watch and see how things develop in the coming hours.

The other main weather story today is the excessive heat across the Province.

At 3PM the HOT SPOT in Manitoba is Melita with a temperature of +34.2°C and Canada's HOT SPOT is Estevan, Saskatchewan sitting at a sizzling +37.4°C.

Hey, everyone.

Here is a photo of the Tornadic Supercell looking just South of Rapid City yesterday afternoon while I was at a family get together.

This storm was so strong...
We were watching it rotating fast with inflow coming in on both sides of the Mesocyclone and Wall Cloud. I have never seen such a textbook Supercell before. It produced a tornado near the Town of Rapid City and East from there along Highway 24 taking out power lines, damaging homes and trailers, and tossing grain bins.

The tornado has not yet been rated by Environment Canada.

A Full Album of photos will be published tomorrow hopefully.
