As you all know I try to keep you up on the latest scams, so here's another one. If you're using Microsoft Teams please read the following:

Please stay vigilant: we have received reports of a new scam targeting employees via Microsoft Teams.

The Scam: Fraudsters are posing as members of the IT department and calling users directly through Teams. They claim there is a technical issue with your computer and request remote access (via software like AnyDesk, TeamViewer, or Teams screen sharing) to "fix" it.

What you need to know:

IT will never call you out of the blue to request remote access without you contact us first.
Do not accept screen-sharing requests or download any software prompted by an unexpected caller.
Ignore and hang up if you receive a suspicious call.
If you have already engaged with one of these calls or granted access, please disconnect your internet immediately and contact …

Please stay vigilant and if you need any help don't hesitate to contact us.

With all the scamming going on, Here's some tips to protect yourselves from bank fraud.

Bank Impersonation Scams – How to Protect yourself
A bank impersonation scam may start with a phone call, text or email from what looks to be your bank. These communications appear to come from a bank representative but be assured, a bank representative will NEVER ask you to:

• Initiate any type of transaction on behalf of your bank.
• Provide one-time codes sent through SMS, emails, or voicemail to identify yourself.
• Download a remote access application.
• Share your PIN or login IDs.
• e-Transfer money for any reason.
• Create a new online banking password with the advisor or ask to share your password with anyone.
• Ask you to provide your debit card or credit card to a third-party, such as a courier, in order to secure your account.

To further protect yourself, set up mobile app Alerts - an easy, secure way for you to quickly spot suspicious transactions or unauthorized purchases in your accounts.

Other Common Scams and Ways to Avoid Them:

• Be cautious if you receive a phone call, text or email claiming to be from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) or other government agencies. These agencies will never threaten to arrest, deport or physically assault you or your family, nor will they demand payment in the form of fines, gift cards or bitcoin.

• Be wary of anyone who claims that your Social Insurance Number (SIN) has been compromised. Do not provide personal information such as your date of birth, address or more, as it could result in identity theft and other fraudulent activities.

• Be mindful of the promise of high or quick investment returns. That's the giveaway of most investment and crypto scams. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Make sure you can directly access your investment account and can independently verify performance. Confirm with your provincial securities regulator that the entity is legally permitted to offer financial services in your area.

• Always remain skeptical when faced with an out-of-ordinary or urgent request, particularly when it comes to divulging information or sending money. For example, be wary of job scams that promise a job opportunity or “training” that will make you more eligible for employment in exchange for money.

• Never sign a lease, or provide rental payment, without physically visiting the property. Avoid housing scams by researching the address of the home to ensure the listing is truthful and accurate and don’t rush into paying a deposit.

Most financial institutions have information about the most common scams and what to watch for.

Be Safe Everyone.

Hello Everyone. It's that time of year where the scumbag scammers increase their presence. Email, Phone Calls and Text Messages. These lowlifes will stop at nothing to get their greedy little hands on your money. I'll say this again, "NO REPUTABLE COMPANY WILL SOLICIT YOU FOR MONEY!!! Trigger words that you should look out for are as follows:
Bitcoin
Payment by Gift Cards such as Google Play, Apple as well as major Retailers.
Them telling you that your PC is infected, amongst others.
There is also refund scams as well as Fake Amazon refund scams.
The list goes on. If you do receive an email or text, delete them. If you receive calls from numbers you don't recognize don't answer. If you feel your debit or credit card has been compromised call the number on the back of your card. If you have elderly relatives or friends, talk to them. The elderly can become easily confused and bullied into passing on information to these criminals. If your PC has been infected or for any other PC issues, we'd be happy to help. It's unbelievable the lengths that scammers will go to, to get their dirty little hands on your money. I can't stress this enough, if you get a call from someone claiming to be from Amazon, Microsoft, Amazon Prime, UPS or any major company for instance, claiming that someone's charged an iphone to your Amazon account or someone claiming to be from Microsoft saying your PC in infected. These companies will "NOT" contact you for these reasons! Hang up! As well if you get a text claiming your cell phone plan is overdue, or the Government of Canada has a refund for you, these are just two scams out of many that are just that, "SCAMS"! No company is going to text you! Be diligent don't fall for these low life scammers.

Check out these guys who are trying to help. The videos are quite informative.
