TechSavers Computer Repair

TechSavers Computer Repair TechSavers is now permanently closed. Thank you for your patronage. Since 2017. Computer repair that makes sense. Check us out!!

Onsite service or pickup/dropoff service available! Don has wanted to open his own computer store from the day that he walked into his first one. That was a long time ago, in the days of the Atari 800 and Apple ][+, and we had these weird places called arcades where you would go to pay to play videogames. Don Holmberg and Kirby Houde started TechSavers in 2017 after years of deliberation. As of Au

gust 2018 Kirby stepped away and moved to Kelowna, and now it is now solely run by Don. It is very much a family affair; come in to the store and you might meet Don's kids. It is a loose-knit affair, with some of those old arcade games available to play at a moments notice. Did I mention that TechSavers also makes custom arcade joysticks for your PC? Don has been programming computers since 1979, hanging out in computer stores since 1981, paid to sell and fix computers since 1986. "I didn’t leave computers and come back decades later, I’ve always been here. If you’ve got a problem with a Mac, Windows or Linux system, odds are pretty good I can fix it (compare that to the big box stores, where they want you to throw out your computer and buy a new one)." Cheap, too...our most expensive labour package is $99, and we frequently have sales to save you even more money.

Effective immediately, TechSavers is no more. My eyesight isn't improving after several glaucoma surgeries and months of healing. In some ways it is getting worse.

Most jobs that I've taken on in the past few months have been stressful because I'm afraid I'll screw it up due to eyesight issues. My procrastination is higher than ever, making clients upset. I never wanted upset clients.

Adding to this is the fact that I can't drive anymore, and I live outside of town, so deliveries have to wait until my wife is available (she has her own life!)... It just makes the whole thing too complicated.

Since we were forced to move out of town due to the rental crisis, our current place is small and running a business out of here means that my family has had to endure a life akin to hoarding, nowhere to sit, etc. I've had enough. None of this is working anymore.

I'm sorry. Eight years ago Kirby , Vikki and I opened the store, and it's just been a death of a thousand cuts since. I truly loved that store, the museum, and especially the clients. Most of my clients have been exceptional and I consider many of you to be my friends. I'm sorry that it had to end like this but it's time. I'm not dead though, so if you just want to say hi I'd appreciate it. PM me, email me, call me if you have my phone number (store number is defunct).

Thank you all for the business, laughs and memories.

I'm slowly easing back into work! Frankly, I'd prefer to give it a couple more weeks but the bank account tells me to suck it up ;)

Let me know if you are having any computer problems, and I'll let you know if it is something I can currently handle. Thank you all for the support, and the well-wishing. I have the best clients! :)

***SOLD***

Hi all. First of all, this isn't a repeat. It's about the second computer I was talking about a few days ago.

As you may know, I have been unable to work for several months now. My surgery went well but I don't know how long until I can work again. Money is tight and I forgot about a big bill. So I'm blowing out some items for a lot less than I really want to.

It is a Gateway tower, probably one of the last made before Acer dropped the Gateway name. This one is a bit more powerful than the last computer I sold for$30, and a bit more expandable. I'm not going to say it's a wicked fast gaming machine, but it's good at older games and can be upgraded if you need more oomf later. Great for most family needs like internet stuff and school or office work. I last had it listed for $140 but let my stupid mistake be your gain. I'm asking $50. I also have a nice 22" LCD monitor for $20.

So cheap! Ideal for giving that summer temp in your office something to work with, or a computer for the kids, or the parents, etc. Or have it as a spare computer that sits in a closet so you don't have downtime. You get the idea.

Here's the specs:
Gateway tower
- AMD A10-5700 processor (quad core)
- 8Gb memory
- 1Tb hard drive
- Radeon HD 7660D video chipset
- DVD Recorder
- Windows 10 Home
- Preloaded, ready to go. Has Google Chrome, LibreOffice and security software all set up.
Unfortunately I can't offer a warranty on this, but anyone who ever bought a computer from TechSavers knows I do good work.

Please help me out. I'd prefer to be resting/healing but now It have this bill to worry about. Thank you.

I guess I should update this. I wish I had something positive to say, but I'm undergoing surgeries to fix my eyes. I'm 54 years old with advanced glaucoma. I've already had cataracts on my 40s and LASIK in my 30s, the result of being 20 inches away from the old CRT screens since I was 9.

I might get some functionality back, but it's time to face reality. The odds are not great that I'll heal enough to do this work at a professional level anymore.

I'm NOT giving up, but as the saying goes, hope for the best, but...

I'll know more soon. The work on my right eye in about half done, then they start on the other. I'll have a better idea what to expect around June

As I haven't been able to work for the past 2 months, the bank account is pretty much depleted and the company phone will probably be disconnected.

You can still get ahold of me through email and through Facebook Messenger. Hopefully someday soon I'll actually get the surgery I need but I am still waiting.

I'm really sorry for not being able to help those customers who have sought out my services. I'd love to get back to fixing computers again!

EDIT: Email is dh.techsavers at gmail.com. I spelled it wrong to cut down on the bots and spam.

Laptops and desktops are now on sale. Solid machines, good for studying and office work. All are Internet ready, so good for YouTube and streaming services. Starting from $75 !!

I'm sorry if you are one of the people that have called in the past week. Most of the calls were from OK Falls, Summer land and Naramata, which is ironic considering I previously said I can't drive anymore.

But I also never called anyone back. I keep meaning to, but then I notice that three days passed and it's now too late at night to call. I think it's called depression.

Thank you all for the well wishes and support. Easy to feel isolated when stuff like this happens.
