Read me ... I can help! Unfortunately, there is no nice way to say this. Computer prices are going up—specifically, Memory, SSDs, hard drives, CPUs and Video Cards.
The Reason is the boom in AI, causing a massive shortage and prices of Memory Up 4X currently and maybe still going up. Worse yet, this is expected to last anywhere from a year to 10 years
One of the biggest Memory Companies, Crucial (Micron) has decided to focus on selling to the AI datacenters and exiting the consumer space. Samsung is quitting making SSDs,
it looks like next year could be a really dark time for PC Gaming ... heck, even video game consoles are going up in price. Big names like Dell, HP and others are going to be raising their prices very soon ... and not by a small amount. So what can you do, almost the same as me, next to nothing. We are all in the same boat, and it’s taking on water. However, I do have a deal available for at least three people this Christmas. I have 3 computers that I will sell at my regular price before everything went crazy.

FAQ
“Is there a warranty?”
Yes, I provide a 3-year warranty. I want you to have a computer that will last you years. If something goes wrong with the hardware, I will do my very best to fix it and get you back up and running. Sometimes the exact parts are no longer available, or they cost more than a better one; in that case, you get an upgrade.
“I see a computer on sale at a Big Box store … what’s the difference?”
The ones at the store and online with the Big brands (Dell, Acer, HP, etc.) are sold to make them the most money. Corners are cut, and they do their best so that you don’t notice. Sadly even their high end stuff, Like putting a high end cpu in a lower end motherboard that can’t provide enough power to run the CPU at it’s full speed, A green motherboard that sticks out like a sore thumb in a case with a clear side panel, 1 stick of memory instead of 2 so your not running in dual channel with ddr4 memory, sometimes they lack cooling on the CPU, they also lack a option to add a second SSD to the motherboard, Sometimes they use a non ATX or MATX case so you can’t easily swap in a new motherboard down the road, or they use a non ATX power supply .. so if it dies you cant’ easily replace it with a new one. Speaking of the motherboard if a new CPU comes out that you want to upgrade to.. You might not be able to, as it would need a BIOS flash, and you need the manufacturer to provide that. Even if the motherboard is a brand name like Asus or Gigabyte, it might be a special version of that motherboard that doesn’t get updates from the company that made it. You also have to pay extra for a warranty at a big box store that’s part of their profit, and if something goes wrong, they can take weeks to fix it or have to ship it away, or worse yet, tell you that your computer isn’t worth what you paid and only give you a partial credit towards a new computer. For the record, I’ve never bought an extended warranty or an overpriced hdmi cable or anything else they try to force me to buy .. I get it they don’t make a ton, and they have to pay employees and for their big store. … I’m pretty sure the stores hate me.
“What do you take for payment?”
I prefer Cash and E-transfer as the bank gets 0% off those, but if that doesn’t work for you, I also take Debit, or Credit Card (Visa, Master Card And American Express)
For custom builds, I require at least a 50% deposit before I order the parts (25% is not refundable) and then the rest when you pick up the computer. Some prefer to pay it all upfront, some others prefer to give me more than 50%
“You said prices are going up … I’ll just wait.”
I guess it depends on how long you want to wait. Best case seems to be next fall for prices to stop climbing … not sure what things will look like in say next August, some say it could last years, even a decade. By then, I’m sure DDR5 will no longer be the current memory … maybe DDR6 or DDR7, but I’m also sure the AI datacenters will want the newest and best stuff … if they are still around, we might not get out of this mess. When there was a shortage of video cards during covid I sold my video cards I had on hand without marking them up to the current crazy prices, with memory and SSDs, I’m doing the same thing now. But my supply is very limited, and I will be forced to pay the inflated prices and pass that on. But until I run out, I’ll sell what I have like I did before the price skyrocketed. I really wish i saw this coming and could have afforded to stock up.
“Why Divine Hammer Computers?”
For the last 30 years, I’ve built and fixed computers in Penticton. I was born here, and if I get my way i will die here. I love this city and the people who live, work and play here. I would love you to support a local company as well. I would love for you to be my customer and earn your business. I love working on computers and always do my best to provide a service that will have you coming back for new computers for life, and telling your friends about me. I put a ton of testing into the computers to make sure they run well, that the memory isn’t defective, and that it doesn’t overheat in the most extreme situations. I look forward to being your computer guy and creating a work of art, as one person recently called it
