Is landside mobility an overlooked opportunity in improving port efficiency?

We were honored to share our experiences in helping ports monitor and measure landside traffic bottlenecks, at , together with Gadi Benmoshe of International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH), Roman Heimgartner of AELER Technologies, Geneviève Allard of Trois-Riveres Port Authority, and Jarret Holdridge of Fenix Marine Services.

Only when port managers have the situation awareness and data-supported “ground truth” about truck movement patterns and choke points on their fingertips can they begin to prioritize and develop solutions to improve supply chain efficiency on the landside!

Congrats to the team of Port Technology International - PTI on the successful bringing together some of the most innovative ports, operators and technology providers.

We are often asked about the reliability of the sample size or pe*******on rate of datasets from different sources. How much data is enough in a sample that can be used to generate statistically sound traffic estimations for the purposes of planning, operations and transportation engineering?

To this end, our data scientist Saba Akbari wrote a white paper providing practical formulas and examples on how to determine the minimum sample size for estimating traffic metrics such as travel time, speed, delay, flow rate and many more. 🤩

We are super stoked Canada's Port Trois-Rivières chose our technology to help gain greater visibility into truck movements and optimize the operations of its terminals.

Located between Montreal and Quebec City on the St. Lawrence River, the Port of Trois-Rivières are an inland port with the capacity to serve cargo, bulk and cruise ships.

As the COVID-19 pandemic has created significant disruption to global supply chains, the port wanted to take a proactive approach to manage increased gate times (time trucks spend waiting to enter terminal gates) and turn-times (time trucks spend in the terminal area), port to city traffic congestion, and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions.

Pier 300, the second largest container terminal at Port of Los Angeles, was increasingly impacted by truck queues at the terminal gates, which then spilled over to nearby city roads causing traffic congestion.

Fenix Marine Services, an innovator in port operations, manages Pier 300. While it had used to monitor truck movements inside the ports, it didn't have a solution to monitor truck wait times on the city roads leading to the terminal gates.
