In anticipation of Bill C-18 coming to an end, 🤞, we are going to start posting to our page again, which we still can’t see.
We consider this whole affair to be a breach of our rights as an independently owned small business, by both the Canadian government and . There should be consequences. And, while it’s doubtful there will be any, what has transpired is one of the most gross and negligent acts any government has committed against the private sector in Canada. It is beyond the pale when compared to anything I have witnessed in my lifetime (60 years ).
I recently attended a news media conference in where the presented analytical results from an article about women’s issues. Towards the end the presenter lamented that they didn’t know how to monetize commenting on their website. My jaw dropped. I was pitching Internet solutions to mainstream media 25 years ago in Toronto. If legacy media can’t figure out how to monetize the Internet after 25 years, perhaps it’s time for a makeover, because without the Internet it is no more. But man, how ignorant can you be? It’s been 25+ years!
Many companies have figured out how to monetize Internet commenting. Unpublished Media’s entire business model is built around commenting on news media coverage.
If Bill C-18 wasn’t intentionally malicious toward small, independent, investigative in , it was done without understanding how works in Canada in the 21st-century. Unpublished Media Inc. is not news media company. We’ve never claimed to be news media. But, we have been swept up in it and treated as if we are. Just more proof of the incredible ignorance behind the creation of Bill C-18.
We call on the government to save small media and journalism in Canada by reversing Bill C-18 as soon as humanly possible.
