Thinking of buying a used Mac? Do these 5 checks before you hand over your money

• Battery health - ideally. you’re looking for a battery with a low ‘cycle count’, a battery health that says ’Normal’, and a maximum capacity as close to 100% as possible

• Apple Diagnostics - go to the Apple Menu, select ‘About this Mac’ then ‘More Info’ and then ‘System Report’ to get a detailed breakdown of all the tech specs on the machine

• Activation Lock - make sure before you buy that the Mac has been erased and that the old owner has signed out of iCloud and removed ‘Find My’ and Activation Lock. If the Mac is still logged in to iCloud or registered to the previous owner, you won’t be able to log in or set up your own profile

• Display and Ports - check that the display is free from cracks and scratches and that the ports - power, usb, SD card (if available) are all free of debris and in working order

• Serial Number Check - unfortunately clones and knock-off Mac products are a reality. Make sure to check that the serial number is legit. If you have questions, the Alary team can validate a serial number for you!
