Two days ago, I tested the ability of ChatGPT, and then I talked with an IT engineer about the development of AI, and realized that the current AI is capable of doing jobs with low technical standards. For example, I asked AI to write a perpetual calendar program , ChatGPT can write a program in less than 30 seconds, which is faster than a real person writing a program.
All positions are based on the knowledge and skills possessed from shallow to deep, so there is a difference between junior and senior, which is also reflected in the difference in salary. Senior engineers have higher salaries than junior engineers. However, if AI can replace junior engineers to complete tasks with lower technical requirements, it means that junior engineers have no tasks to learn and experience, so how to become intermediate or even senior engineers, this situation should also be mapped to other static category of work. What future software engineers need to learn is not to write programs, but to learn how to open their mouths to order AI to work. When engineers do not have the skills to write programs, if they just need to open their mouths to give orders to AI, then ordinary people can also do it, as long as the ordinary people know how to give orders. This should be the risk of AI destroying jobs.
I found that many technical engineers are optimistic about AI, which may really help simplify their work and reduce their workload, but isn't this also the beginning of their work being replaced?
When I came to Canada to start a business, what I want to do is to create jobs, not use AI to reduce job opportunities. So how to make good use of AI, this is what I want to think about.
