Special pens can be a powerful tool in feedlot health management—but only when they’re used with purpose.

When pen roles aren’t clearly defined, or movement criteria aren’t consistent, they can quickly become a place where problems accumulate instead of being resolved.

The goal is clarity: define the purpose of each pen, set clear protocols for movement, and ensure crews have systems they can follow consistently. Used well, special pens support better outcomes. Used loosely, they do the opposite.

In the end, the best approach is deliberate usage— as little as necessary.

The best feedback from clients is hearing that ITS software is making a real difference in day-to-day feedyard operations.

From reducing paperwork and streamlining manual processes to helping crews access accurate data quickly, small efficiencies add up in a big way over time. ⏳⚡

🐂 The economic impact of low-stress cattle handling may not be easy to define as a dollar amount— but associated benefits can still boost your bottom line.

From improved cattle health & performance to enhanced labour efficiency & crew safety, here's why it's still worth adopting techniques that reduce strain on both cattle and people: https://bit.ly/3PVeq7w

As Beef Month wraps up, we’re looking ahead.

The future of beef is bright, thanks to the legacy of hard work and innovation that has always driven this industry forward.

We support that future with tools built to deliver real-world benefits — practical feedlot management solutions and better data for informed decision-making, supporting long-term growth and resilience for the next generation.

Innovation doesn’t have to be flashy. Sometimes it just means making the day-to-day easier to manage, and more connected to what counts when it comes to the bottom line.

We’re proud to be part of it all.

📊 Canada’s first national feedlot benchmark is shedding light on how operations compare across nutrition, receiving protocols and growth technology use.

Drawing on responses from 87 feedlots in seven provinces, the survey highlights both common ground and areas where management approaches differ by region and operation size.

Key findings included:

✔️ 85.4% of feedlots use byproducts in cattle diets
✔️ Strong uptake of BRD vaccination and receiving protocols
✔️ Corn dominates Eastern rations while barley remains central in the West
✔️ Nearly half of respondents are not formally evaluating grain processing
✔️ Growth technology adoption drops sharply in smaller feedlots

Having benchmark data matters. It gives cattle feeders a clearer picture of current industry practices and helps identify where operational improvements and future research can support stronger feedlot performance. 🔗 Read more: bit.ly/4wwIh6K
