Light has always shaped how we experience a building. It adds warmth, invites people in, offers a sense of security, and gives architecture its character. Every kind of place is made better when it is built with care and lit with intent.

This World Architecture Day, we honour the people who turn ideas into the places communities share, and raise awareness on housing. GVA is ready to be part of the buildings of tomorrow.

The secret to lighting the world’s tallest hotel? INFINITY®.

Standing 377 m / 1,237 ft tall, Ciel Dubai Marina is certified by as the world’s tallest hotel. The supertall tower is a study in clarity: a sculptural elliptical form that tapers top and bottom, wrapped in a silver façade that reflects the sea and sky.

The centrepiece of the lighting design is a pair of slim ribbons running the full height of the tower and meeting in a single closed loop at the top. Each ribbon combines two HIGHLIGHTER® GEN4 configurations: a DL-ROUND direct-view line that reads crisply from a distance, and a COVE-OUTDOOR accent that adds depth. Together they span roughly 1.3 km / 4,265 ft in linear length.

Working with COLOR-STREAM® to carry power and data on the same cable, INFINITY® powers the entire ribbon from just 8 centralized power supplies, with none inside the luminaires. On a supertall, that means greater design flexibility, lower cost, higher reliability, and minimal facade penetrations.

The crown completes the look, lit with STR10® and FL™ GEN2 luminaires that frame the tower’s sculpted apex in white light and dynamic color.

Several GVA product families working together as one system give Ciel a night-time presence worthy of Dubai Marina’s newest landmark.

We are pleased to share that Keel Crossing in Sunderland, UK has been nominated for Build Back Better Awards in the lighting category. It is another industry recognition for projects powered by the 380 V DC INFINITY® technology.

The 250m bridge’s state-of-the-art lighting system features GVA’s HIGHLIGHTER®, and FL™ series, all powered by a centralized 15kW INFINITY® Power Supply System, giving it enhanced flexibility, simplicity, and reliability from one end to the other.

Congratulations to everyone involved!

A sail catches wind. What happens when it catches light instead?

Block 185 is the result. At 175.9 m / 577 ft tall, it is framed by Shoal Creek to the west and Lady Bird Lake to the south. The tower steps back into a cascade of terraces and a sweeping taper, creating a unique building that resembles a sail caught mid-billow, earning it the name “Sail Tower”.

After dark, the lighting design creates a unique personality for the tower. Rather than washing the tower in a flat glow, the design traces its edges and terraces, following the sail’s curve up through more than twenty floors and gathering into a featured crown at the top.

GVA’s STR9®, FL™ and HIGHLIGHTER® Series were installed in various parts and aimed with precision, faithfully realizing the vision. The majority of the lighting system is powered by INFINITY®, offering next-level flexibility, reliability and cost savings to the project.

This October, as the lighting community sails into Austin at IALD , be sure to check this out!
