Bridging the Digital Divide in Wound Care: Health Literacy and Access to Care

commented By: Douglas on May 10, 2021

As our world becomes more and more digital or virtual or both are we prepared? In our pandemic world it has shown us even although we weren't as prepared as we should have been we can certainly handle the change when it becomes necessary.

COVID-19 Outbreak: Nurses’ barriers to caring for patients with : a qualitative systematic review

As wound carers we all understand the importance of nurses to the healthcare process. Certainly our patients do. The pandemic has been challenging for most of us but none more so than front line healthcare workers. Firstly let me APPLAUD the efforts of these individuals. Its never been so more true than our lives are in your hands.

COVID-19 Outbreak: Is it Possible to Safely Maintain a Regular Vascular Practice During the COVID-19 Pandemic?

commented By: Keith Harding on Mar 23, 2021

At the beginning of the pandemic we were unsure of how to maintain our wound clinics, continuing the treatment of our patients. As the pandemic progressed we became more aware of how to manage our patients and clinics, even if on a more limited basis. This is an interesting article that shows how vascular services can be maintained during a pandemic.

International Wound Community: Efficacy and safety of recombinant human epidermal growth factor for diabetic foot ulcers: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials

commented By: Keith Harding on Mar 04, 2021
Biologicals play an important role in the management of wounds. In particular many have helped with the management of diabetic foot ulcers. Growth factors have been around for over a decade now and many clinical studies have shown some efficacy. But are they conclusive? This review would suggest they played a role in the healing of such wounds.

International Wound Community: Innovative Energy Transfer Medical System: PACE®– Focused Shockwave Technology: Facilitates Revascularization and Capillary Perfusion in Chronic Wounds

This might be shocking - excuse the pun - but the use of focused shock waves can actually increase perfusion within chronic wounds. Worth a look for sure.

As wound care professionals we have to be aware of the inflammatory response caused by COVID-19 and its impact on wounds. We have to share experiences to help each other.

International Wound Community: A Celebration of Wounds Canada’s 25th Anniversary

commented By: Keith Harding on Feb 04, 2021
I was proud to be part of this event. Having travelled to Canada on many occasions to participate in this meeting I was sad that it was virtual. As I love a good party and the Canadians certainly know how to party - well apart from my colleague Dr Queen!

An interesting case series regarding a wound source that many of us rarely see but in some geographies in the world it can be quite common.
