A MESSAGE FROM DAVID ACCO
PRESIDENT, ACOSYS

I want to take this moment first and foremost to send my thoughts and prayers to children and families of residential & Indian day schools survivors, and survivors of the 60’s Scoop. I also wish to honour the victims of residential schools who were buried in unmarked graves, as well as our missing children that have yet to be found and brought home.

There are not enough words to describe the incalculable losses and negative impacts the Indian Act and its institutions and systems had on our children and families.

I also want to thank the clients who invited me to speak to their staff over the past two weeks about reconciliation. I am heartened by your willingness to open your doors to learn and to act. It is time we make education into edu-action!
Reconciliation is not one day but every day.

Today, I am standing with Phyllis Webstad! And I say to those who tried to “kill the Indian” : You did not, and will never erase us… We are here, and we will be here for the next Seven generations, and after that there will be another Seven generations to take our place.”

Please wear orange in solidarity today and be proud to let everyone see that you stand with us, our children, and our families.
