Chronic kidney disease is defined as ongoing kidney damage for more than 3 months. It can be structural, electrolyte abnormalities, functional (decrease in glomerular filtration rate).

Therefore, it is essential that patients within high-risk groups monitor their blood pressure daily and know their numbers. A systolic of 130 and a diastolic pressure of 80 is recommended (talk to your doctor because individual numbers can vary based on baseline). Blood pressure control can reduce the progression of chronic kidney disease and reduce cardiac mortality and morbidity.

Take a trip down memory lane with us to March 7th, 2023, when our Co-founder/CMO had the pleasure of representing us at the SoCal Black Tech Express accelerator in Los Angeles. This six-week program, in partnership with the Canadian Trade Commission, was designed to assist high-potential, Black owned/led start-ups and SMEs to accelerate their growth, and allow us say, it was an incredible experience!

Throughout the combinator, we focused on preparing Collogh Cares for international markets, assessing market potential, finding qualified contacts and partners, and resolving problems. It was a privilege to work with such an inspiring organisation, and the perfect way to start the last month of our first quarter.

During this final week, we had the opportunity to meet with various angel investors, VC, and discuss growth potentials in the LA market. The excitement and energy were contagious, and it was inspiring to see these entrepreneurs take their businesses to the next level.

Overall, this was an unforgettable experience, and we are grateful to have been a part of it.

To Care is to Advocate: Promoting Access to Kidney Care

Advocacy is the act of speaking up for a cause and supporting those who are unable to speak for themselves. As Margaret Mead once said, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." Advocacy is critical to ensuring that patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) have access to high-quality care.

To care is to advocate; to advocate is to empower; to empower is to make a difference. Advocacy is about standing up for what is right, even when it is difficult. At Collogh Cares, we believe that every patient deserves access to care that meets their individual needs. Unfortunately, access to kidney care is not always a given. According to the National Kidney Foundation, approximately 37 million adults in the United States have CKD, yet many of them are not aware of their condition. Even for those who are aware of their CKD, access to care can be a challenge due to a variety of barriers, including a lack of insurance coverage, transportation issues, and a shortage of nephrologists in some areas.

At Collogh Cares, we are committed to advocating for our patients and their families. We work to increase awareness of CKD and its impact on individuals and families. We partner with policymakers and healthcare providers to promote policies that support access to care for all patients, regardless of their background or financial status.
