OptiTerm(tm)-design term life insurance product gain traction as a 4th carrier - Canada Life - introduces "My Term" to replace its previous portfolio of "term" life insurance offerings for Private Personal Insurance ("PPI").

Canada Life now becomes the 4th carrier to feature the OptiTerm(tm) design, along with iA Financial ("Pick-A-Term"), RBC Insurance ("Your Term"), and Teachers Life ("Online Individual Term")

The OptiTerm(tm) design provides for the selection of the initial level premium and level benefit period, to be followed by YRT renewals when renewable beyond the initial period. That flexibility - the flexibility to select the duration of the initial level period - is an important and primary advantage of the OptiTerm(tm) design

Previous to April 5th 2021, OptiTerm(tm)-design term products were available for a selection of initial level periods of 10 to 40 years (subject to "insurance age" at issue). Canada Life now expands the range of selectable initial periods from just 10-40 years to 5-50 years (subject to "insurance age" at issue).

Canada Life's new "My Term" OptiTerm(tm)-design term insurance product with all its permutations, including joint, first-to-die, is included in today's automated update of LifeGuide (2021.04A)

Thousands of Canada's top financial and insurance advisors subscribe to and use LifeGuide consistently to serve the best interests of their clients. It is highly recommended that you consult with a LifeGuide-equipped broker or financial advisor when considering life, critical illness, long-term care or another form of insurance on the person. Most likely, you'll be offered better value at a lower cost than from an agent who is not equipped to research the market in depth.

Just now
The federal government passed legislation, lowering the minimum withdrawal rate from RRIFs for 2020 by 25%. This is as a token relief against the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the market and on many seniors' retirement savings. This reduction for 2020 is reflected in the upcoming automated update of LifeGuide(R) scheduled for tomorrow, April 15th. The update includes product revisions that are also effective tomorrow, along with this update to LifeGuide(R)'s RRIF Analysis module.

Effective October 31st, SSQ has revised it term portfolio offerings. The revisions include:
-Removal of the Company's Term 10, Term 20 and Term 70 products, including removal of their indexing option. The Company has added new term products "Term Plus" for various level and decreasing face amount need.
-Please note that the Term Plus products are only renewable for 5-year level intervals regardless of the original level duration
-Revision of the initial underwriting evidence requirements for all term and permanent product offerings.

*** It is important to note that SSQ's N1 "Elite" risk class with the lowest premiums requires a TOTAL ABSTINENCE from To***co, Ni****ne and related substances for a MINIMUM OF 60 MONTHS - NOT JUST 12. Likewise, SSQ's other "non-smoker" risk classes may require total abstinence for To***co, Ni****ne and related substance consumption for periods that exceed 12 months.

Most importantly, misrepresentation of To***co, ni****ne or related substance consumption may and likely will render the policy void ab initio (from the outset) to cause the denial of a claim under the policy.

SSQ' quoting tool fails to point this out at user input to produce quotes but it is important for you to know.

Canada's leading independent multiple carrier software and data service, LifeGuide(R), includes the "Ascertain" function with its To***co/Ni****ne and related substance consumption questionnaire to avoid this pitfall.

Comparison of insurance "on the person" contracts (life, CI, LTCi, DI, etc.) should not be made on "price" alone. Actually, "comparisons" of CI insurance offerings based on price alone are potentially misleading to the client. Like other insurance "on the person" contracts, CI insurance contracts are not standardized and are worded differently. Insurance is a legal contract and that legal contract governs. The differences among CI contracts can be quite substantial.

What CI events/conditions are covered and what are the exclusions is just as important to consider as is the premium.
Available ONLY in LifeGuide(R):
I am pleased to advise that LifeGuide(R) again widens its consistent lead since nearly 30 years ago. LifeGuide's covered CI Conditions Comparison spreadsheet-like module is now enhanced to instantly display the wordings of the contractual definition of each covered CI condition/event for each carrier, for each policy and for each covered CI event/condition.

This newest enhancement is slated to be included in the next automated update of LifeGuide. Below is one of the screen images:

Is this a trend or just happening at the bottom end? It happened 3 years ago, a couple of times each year since, and another time yesterday. The storyline is the same, the actors are different as are the scenario details. Yesterday's caller also invested nothing other than paying some outfit for the "sales lead", and succeeded in losing well over $1,000, plus his time, by investing nothing. Here's the description of the event 3 years ago:

My day started off rather interesting this morning. My first incoming telephone call was from an irate life insurance agent who obviously was quite upset.
