Over my years as a tech, my hardest situations is dealing with customers who lost a loved one, and have no passwords, pins or log in information saved anywhere. And it can become frustrating dealing with companies that seem to not want to help, but they are following their privacy policies.

Creating a comprehensive "In Case of Emergency" (ICE) list is crucial for personal safety, but also it provides essential information to family and relatives when you cannot give the information needed.

We all our contact list, medication and dr lists, and many other import information.

But what about your digital life? Passwords, pins, and login information for you computer, email, important websites, are all important, and many sites may not help you unless you can be verified.

Now I am not saying to keep this all in plain site, but have a usb stick, paper file, or something in a lockbox, safety deposit box or someplace safe for emergencies only.

And if you do not think it is important, here is a story.

Had a client who passed. Their family went to get the computer open to retrieve family information, but no one had the password. So they asked if there was a way. This time there was a way, and we did get the information, but it does not always come out that way.

Google needs to send a verification code, as does Microsoft and yahoo. If you have it to phone but what if you had it to email?

Also I have seen Apple ask for a verification, bill of sale or layers letter. Yup.

so plan ahead is all I can say.

This is a friendly reminder about batteries and your electronic devices and computers.

All batteries be it rechargeable or just the old dry cell can pose a danger and require care and maintenance.

Here is what a battery is. (information copied from internet)

A dry cell battery is a portable, spill-proof electrochemical cell that uses a paste electrolyte instead of a liquid, commonly powering devices like flashlights, remotes, and toys. Common types include zinc-carbon (non-rechargeable) and alkaline (longer-lasting) cells, typically providing ~1.5 volts

Three types of battery chemistries are rechargeable: nickel-cadmium (NiCad), nickel-metal hydride (NiMH), and lithium-based batteries such as lithium-ion.

Care and Maintenance

Proper care and maintenance of batteries and computer products are crucial for extending their lifespan, ensuring safety, and maintaining performance. For most modern devices, this involves managing lithium-ion battery health (ideally keeping them between 20% and 80% charge), avoiding extreme heat, and keeping devices clean and updated.

If you find leaking dry cell batteries, you can clean the corrosion, and replace the batteries. Test the device to see if it works. Corrosion and can damage electronic devices.

Remove Failed rechargeable batteries If it is swollen or severely damaged, stop using it immediately and dispose of it at a hazardous waste facility.

Also monitor while charging, as batteries can get warm, but damage batteries can over heat and pose a danger.

Also over charging can cause damage to rechargeable batteries, or worse, case it to catch fire or worse, explode.

Some advice for Pink Shirt Day

How to deal with Cyberbullying.

To deal with cyberbullying, immediately document all evidence (screenshots, messages), block the bully on all platforms, and report the abuse to the service provider, school, or police if threats are made.

Do not respond to or retaliate against the bully.

Seek support from trusted adults, friends, or specialized helplines.

How to deal with Trolls.

Dealing with social media trolls involves not feeding them with attention—ignore, block, mute, and report them immediately.

Avoid engaging in arguments, as this fuels their behavior.

Instead, maintain professional boundaries, delete abusive comments, and take breaks to protect your mental health.

Bullies in real life.

Dealing with a bully involves staying calm, acting confidently, setting firm boundaries, and documenting incidents. Avoid reacting with anger, as bullies often seek control over your emotions.

Key strategies include telling a trusted adult or authority figure, walking away, using humor, and, if necessary, involving police for threats or violence.

being harassed online.

If you are being harassed online, immediately stop engaging, block the user, and document all evidence via screenshots. Report the behavior to the social media platform and, if you feel unsafe or threats are made, report the incident to local police. Keep records of messages, emails, and posts.

Been asked of how to tell if you have a scam email?

Well in the past we would say check spelling and grammar. But now, thanks to Ai and grammar checkers, it is getting a bit harder to tell.

Check the email address, and see the country code or email provider to see where it is from. Most large companies and banks do not use Hotmail, yahoo, google for their email.

Is it someone you know? a company you deal with? Many times these can be forged so caution needs to still be taken.

If you did not ask for information, buy something from them, subscribe to them, and if it sounds to good to be true, it probably a scam.

If your not sure, check with us, and we can help you figure it out with you.

Also remember to never give out your bank information, credit card info, or any personnel information without knowing who it is.

Another new Customer that is happy.

System was slow, and they lost some data.

I found out that the Hard drive was almost full, and the computer did a system clean, which can delete important files while it makes space.

I did a hard drive upgrade and system clone, and the Customer was back up and running like new.

Please remember that a Windows computer needs at least 10% free space to work properly.

Also if you allow windows to do a system clean, please now that it could delete important data.

Also please keep good and current backup of all your important data.
