This quarantine is a difficult time, but we need to keep on getting up, everyday, and doing what we need to, for now certainly, but to be ready when this ends.

Your home network/internet, is important, now more than ever! Here are some tips to help in that aspect.

1.Ensure that your router is working on one of 3 channels: 1, 6, 11. Pick one of these that is not crowded. (Can use your phone with, WifiAnalyzer if you have an Android, and Netspot for iOs to see what your neighborhood looks like)

2. Wired is always better than wireless – if at all possible, on a computer that Has To Work, make sure it is connected by network cabling

3.Locate your wifi router as high as you can – don’t have it out of the way under your desk – better connectivity for everyone

4.Check with your ISP to see if there is a speed upgrade available - *My opinion – if your speed is over 20Mbps – upgrade to a new, more powerful router

5. 5Ghz is not faster, per say. It is short range only, and works really well for transferring files inbetween computers. 5Ghz will allow more bandwidth from your internet provider, IF the initial speed is there to be used. (See #4)

6.Do video conferencing, at idle periods, like early in the morning; make sure the people in the house have turned off all their devices.

7. If this is a bit daunting, contact your local IT pro to get help. For a lot of tasks, remote repair is an available option.

8. Keep you and your family safe by minimizing contact with everyone.

In case you haven’t figured it out, Telus has had a major hardware failure that has caused the email outage. They are hoping to have things up and running this morning.

I've seen this a few times in the past 2 days, there are many but this one looked especially legit.

Email Virus Alert - I've received an urgent email from "RBC Express, NOTICE ID-###x Secure Mail Message"

And in the body of the email,
Dear RBC Express Customer [email protected],

You have received a message that requires your attention:

Well, wouldn't you know it, first, the link takes you to a virus. I did not bother to load my linux machine to find out which particular one it is, but my Antivirus and in fact, so did my Yahoo Mail account, both blocked access to it.

Keep in mind that your bank will never have you logon to your account from an email. Email itself is very INSECURE, and then opening an external link is just asking for trouble.

Never open up any questionable emails. If you think it may be legitimate, look up the phone number for your bank in the phone book (don't use a number in the email) and call them to find out. Or, saunter on down to the bank and say, Hello. They are there to help and would love to see you.

For these or any other questions, you can also contact your local IT tech. I'd love to say, "Hi!", too!!

According to a new report, Android devices communicated 11.MB of location data to Google servers every day. iOS users aren't safe, either.
