🔥 Fired Up Friday: Recap with Wins

In sales, the Friday leading into the weekend can make or break your numbers that result after. So what can you do to get everyone fired up?

As district manager, we had a Friday Morning Conference Call. We briefly went over the highlights for sales promos etc.

But most importantly, we covered off the wins from the week prior. I called on the store, asked what happened, and they shared the win with the district. This left them feeling valued, heard and celebrated in front of their peers.

And occasionally it threw down the challenge to beat them from other stores. Healthy competition is always encouraged!

Strong conversations set the stage for strong weekends.

🔥 Fired Up Friday: See the Weekend as a Growth Opportunity

Sometimes when the pressure is on, you can spot those that innately exude leadership. Once as district manager, I showed up to a busy store on a weekend. The boss was off, so it was up to the rest of the team to do the job.

I stood outside the store, observing silently and unnoticed what was happening. One of the sales people had stepped up, they were stepping in, helping with customers, leading the floor, coaching people after interactions. I made note of her immediately, and had a conversation with the store manager upon his return from vacation. We go that associate into the Assistant Manager program, and they moved up in short order.

Sometimes the busiest moments reveal the brightest leaders.

🔥 Fired Up Friday: Calm is Contagious

Providing a steady hand is often the one thing you need to overcome a chaotic service day. Back when I worked in the dish pit, we had a crazy Saturday dinner service. We were slammed, the line was getting backed up with orders, and everyone was rushing around the kitchen. The dinner manager saw that this could lead to disaster: undercooked food, someone getting injured on the line, or dropped plates creating chaos.

Instead, he got everyone's attention, told them all to take a breath, and get the orders right, looking fantastic, and the serving staff would look after the customers in the house.

The kitchen steadied, dishes went out more efficiently, and looked great. We ended the night strong. His calm became the anchor.

Your composure is your team’s compass.

🔥 Fired Up Friday: Recognition Fuels Resilience

A fun little tool to boost morale, and provide some much needed recognition is to keep a notebook of "Weekend Wins." Write down the small victories: a happy customer, smooth table turn in a restaurant, a successful upsell and attach. During your Monday morning huddle, read some of them out, thank the team member, and celebrate the win with them.

Recognition doesn’t need a budget, just intention.

How do you celebrate small wins in your workplace?

🔥 Fired Up Friday: Coach on the Spot

I once noticed a sales associate struggling with upselling, they stumbled over the offer of the day and just couldn't get any extra attach, costing the company, and them money, as well as depriving the customer of the awesome deal! Instead of waiting for them to figure it out on their own, I jumped in, asked how they were doing, what the sticking point in the offer was, and did a quick role play to provide some new ways to offer the deal. By the end of the shift, they had doubled their attach.

Feedback delayed is growth denied.

🔥 Fired Up Friday: Match the Mood

Setting the tone for your people can make the difference of having a low or high energy day. If you notice the energy dragging, jump behind the counter, crack some jokes with customers, smile, set a lively tone. Within minutes you'll see how the teams energy can jump up, and customers will leave smiling.

It's also important to identify if there's a team member that's just not in the mood today, and can't be influenced. Sometimes they need a different, non customer facing task, or maybe a day off to recharge. You may say you're short staffed if you send someone home, but you'll loose peak productivity if they stay and drag everyone else's mood down.

I've done this, your team silently thanks you with no negative mood, and the person who just wasn't into it today also thanks you - they can recharge and come in the next shift energized and ready to go.

Your vibe sets the tribe.

What’s your go-to move to reset the energy?

🔥 Fired Up Friday: Trust Your Team

Empowering your team to make small, yet powerful, decisions on their own can yield big results in a few ways.

If you're heading into the busy season, giving your team the authorization to make a small discount or concession without management approval can help close extra deals, and make your team feel like they have some authority. Customers become happier, lines move faster and your team will feel trusted.

Empowerment creates speed and confidence.

How do you empower your team during peak hours?

Motivation Monday: Empowering your team with trust is the true hallmark of Leadership.

Giving someone responsibility, while being there to help, will build trust.

Allowing your team to solve customer complaints without you makes their job easier.

It builds their confidence, trust and makes the day run smoother overall.

🔥 Fired Up Friday: Prep Like a Pro

A daily huddle just before the busy day can transform how your team operates. It allows you to get out the imperatives for the day, and lets them bring forward any needs or concerns.

You can also go over anything people have missed from the day before if they had a day off, check in on inventory, cover off promotions and say thank you to everyone for the week prior.

The result? Fewer surprises, smoother operations, and higher weekend revenue.

Preparation is the antidote to chaos.

What’s your go-to prep ritual before the weekend rush?

Motivation Monday: Trust takes time. For repeat customers, start building it now.

At Radio Shack, our motto was: "You’ve got Questions? We’ve got Answers." I've kept this throughout my career because answering questions builds trust. Even if you can't sell today, you'll be the go-to for future needs. And next time, they might buy from you because you helped them before.

🔥 Fired Up Friday: Leadership in 30 Seconds

A simple "Thank You" can be the single most impactful thing you can do every day. Micro moments of appreciation like this stack overtime and yield results like you couldn't believe!

At the end of every day I always said to my people: "Thank you for all the help today." Or "Thank you for the hard work today, you rocked it!" or any number of other "thanks for you doing a great job" combination. I made a point of doing this when we closed up, or the person was headed home after their shift.

Why?

Because it mattered. They put in their hard work and time for me and the business. They truly deserved the thanks.

What happened? They felt appreciated, they felt like the mattered. Because they did.

And in turn, productivity soared. Getting hard jobs done became easy. Busy times, they slogged through.

All because of a simple: Thank You.

Small gestures compound into big results.

What’s your favorite quick way to motivate your team?

01/26/2026

Motivation Monday: Growing your team is a daily effort. And one that builds over time.

You don’t need to have huge meetings, sales training sessions, or stacks of training materials to grow your team.

Small interactions can get you where you need to go, a simple high five on a successful close, or a quick post-mortem on an observed interaction that didn’t result in a sale. These things can get grow your teams confidence and skills on the fly and more organically than formal channels ever can.
