Looks easy when you squeeze months of work into the first 8 seconds…

This time last year, I was just wrapping up one of the biggest branding projects Badlands had taken on.

What eventually became the new Elevation Bike Ski Board identity at Sun Peaks started with a competitive RFP based around a set project budget, a strategy session, less than two weeks to develop five completely different brand concepts, and a whole lot of work between that first meeting and the finished brand.

A year later, I thought it would be fun to look back at what actually went into the project, because the finished logos are only a tiny part of the story.

Thank you to Sun Peaks Resort for trusting Badlands to revamp the branding for Elevation, their flagship retail store in the heart of the village.

Earlier this year, I worked with Gravel and Gas to build a brand around a new kind of guided motorcycle travel experience. This summer, that brand officially hit the road.

This is the part of branding I love seeing most… watching an identity move beyond the initial concept and show up in the real world. From pre-trip guides and rider gear to welcome kits, to the experience itself, Cassidy has taken the brand and continued building on it in ways I never could have mocked up in a presentation.

A good brand shouldn’t just look good at launch, it should give you something to build on.

Gravel and Gas is doing exactly that and crushing it!

Here’s how I developed the branding for a motorcycle travel company built around real-world riding, training, and support.�
We started with Strategy & Direction. This is where we define the foundation of the brand. Positioning, audience, what sets it apart, and how it should show up.�
From there, we moved into visual direction. Locking in what the brand should feel like, what to avoid, where the colours come from, and early references for the logo style.�
Once that direction was approved, I got into design. I went through a ton of type options but nothing felt right, so I built a grid and started shaping a custom wordmark from scratch.�
Every detail was intentional. Built to feel structured, durable, and refined without leaning into typical moto clichés.
