Busy day today, we had Ryan Bowland of Bowland Designs over helping Jason move his Grampas Old shed (this was the fourth time the old thing moved & its still standing) as well as dig out some blackberry roots and clear a path for our ‘Dogs in Deer out’ fence (time to start protecting both our mothers transplanted shrubs and annuals from North Van before they’re all gone) what a friendly hard worker he is, job is done in less time than expected, we highly recommend him! Now to this weeks activities beginning with Pride Music Bingo at the Breeze tomorrow (Thursday night) last years was Epic and this years is expected to be as good or better, make sure to Dress in your most glittery, fabulous or even a bit naughty outfits, prizes for best dressed. Friday the Fruit Stand and Juice Bar at Baird n Co Nursery Garden will be open for the season with Fresh Produce and Juice, grab a beverage and check out the garden, shops and nursery. Also, on Friday if you happen to be in Courtenay one of our local Artists Michael Campbell is having his show opener at the Comox Valley Art Gallery. The Pride Festivities ends on Sunday with the Pride Parage – Dress up and march or stand by and watch, marshalling starts at 11am at the Coop and Ends with a Dance party with DJ Pat in Ringside. This week will be full of awesome music and entertainment, starting off tomorrow (Thursday) night at the Ballpark with Moonbean & Wombat with DJ Mescaline Dance after, doors at 8pm, then Friday Central Cinema is back with a double bill of Pride to kick of Hornby Pride festivities, opening with a Documentary film ‘Parade: Q***r Acts of Love and Resistance’ followed by the Cult Classic ‘But I’m a Cheerleader’ Doors for both films at 6pm. If Mountain biking is your thing, HIMBA is hosting Enduro Race on Saturday meeting at Strachan Valley Farm at 10am. For those who enjoy live stage performance Hornby Arts and Hornby Pride are hosting ‘The Blue Taffeta Dress and Other Stories’ at 7pm at the Arts Centre. Of course, the Hornby Farmers Market and Natural History Centre will both be Open 10:30 on Saturday as well. Posting this morning as we hustle out the door to the ferry, we’re off to visit Rio in Nanaimo with a few veggie starts to plant we picked up at the Heron Rocks plant sale a few weeks back. He wants to make a sandwiches garden… Just want to start by giving a SHOUT OUT to this Years Hornby Grads (on the front page of the Tribune)...This weekend once again begins at the Breeze with Trivia night, but rest of the weekend is going to be a bit quieter, unless you’re into Biking – Saturday Hornby Rec & HIMBA are hosting Pedal Heads Unite, Bike Ride, BBQ and Show-n-Shine at JoeKing Park – the fun begins at 3:45 so shine up your wheels and get down to the ballpark, this is an All Ages event and note: Hornby Island Brewing’s Tasting Room is open specially for this occasion from 1-5pm so drop in on your way to the ballpark. Of course, the weekly events and all our local eateries are running, you can find them all on Page 4 (this week Page 5 – it was a very big paper) notably on Saturday the Farmers Market and Natural History Centre both open at 10:30am. I’m going to make this short as we’re off to Jason’s birthday dinner at the Breeze and then to JoeKing to enjoy a little Jazz by Tony, Darryl and Brett. What a busy weekend, lots of folks at the Opening day of the Farmers Market & the Plant Sale looked to be a great succes...

What a busy weekend, lots of folks at the Opening day of the Farmers Market & the Plant Sale looked to be a great success…really nice to see the Community Quilt on display, just a note due to the construction the Quilt will be set up on the Co-op Porch this year, so watch for it when you come to shop. This weekend looks like it’ll be a bit quieter, good time to get into the garden and plant all the things we bought last weekend. The Breeze is hosting Trivia tomorrow (Thursday) and on Friday The John GoGo Coal & Wood Show will be entertaining us at the Hall, Doors 7pm. Fossil Beach is now open on Saturday & Sunday for Cider & BBQ also, theFarmers Market is now on EVERY Saturday 10:30-1:30. Additionally Art Centre is featuring the Persimmon Blackbridge show Wednesday thru Sunday till June 28 with a Family event this Sunday from 1-4pm, Also on Sunday, the last of the Early Literacy Story Time with Jala at Room to Grow at 10am (see page 4 for registration info) and HIAA AGM is at JoeKing at 3pm. The May Long weekend is almost upon us and there will be lots of tourist and LOTS of fun events to do….starting of with Music Bingo tomorrow at the Breeze – then on Saturday will have you busy all day, Beginning with the First Outdoor Farmers Market of the Season Opening 1-:30-1:30pm, then head to New Horizon’s for an Invasive Species Talk with Hunter Jarrett “The Invasive Species Guy” at 2pm or Fossil Beach for their Season Opening of their Cider Tasting Room and Farm to Table BBQ from 1-5pm, or if Art is more your thing, Hornby Arts is hosting the Opening Event of Persimmon Blackbridge: Emma Goldman at the Frick Museum Show at 2pm. And for the Evening Summer Soft with DJ Jean Mescaline is hosting a Dance Party at the Hall with food and beverages by Taste of the West Coast – Doors at 8pm. Sunday will be almost as busy with the Annual Heron Rocks Berry Tea and Plant Sale at 11am – 2pm in the Heron Rocks Friendship Centre gardens - Remember this is a Ca$h only Event & if you like Ping Pong Hornby Rec will be at Four Corners across from the Gas Bar with Tables and Paddles for all to enjoy. Wow…The Blues Week shows have been absolutely outstanding, we saw both Monday and Tuesday nights performances at The Sea Breeze and those that where at the Halls performances have said the same thing…we can’t wait for tonight’s Blues Rock Dance (Sorry Sold Out). If you missed the main shows, theres still time tomorrow (Thursday) to listen to some live music by Ted Tanner and meet some of the artists who created some incredible handmade guitars at the Art Centre ‘Beyond Music Art Show’ the art show is 10-4pm and Ted Plays at 3pm. If you’re looking for some interesting bargains the Estate Sale of Audrey Reeves begins Friday and goes till Sunday at 875 Carmichael Rd 10-2pm. Which brings us to Sunday – Don’t Forget your Mom…Joe King is hosting at Mothers Day Crepe Breakfast 11-1pm and after breakfast you can take her to The Arts Centre to see Elisa Thorne, Harpist, doors at 2pm and on Monday Hornby Art is hosting a fundraiser for the Natural History Centre ‘The Art of Sea-ING with Rochelle Chinnery and Chelka’ doors at 6:30…and lastly don’t forget Heron Rocks FS is still looking for Plants and Frozen Blackberry donations. Well today TOTALLY got away from me….so here I am at 10pm posting todays Tribune….Jason and I did however enjoy the first day of Dr. Froehners weekly Chronic Pain Program with Kate (facilitator of the Nero Emotional Literacy Program) as a guest speaker and after a dog walk, a Schnitzel Dinner with Jazz by Tony, Darryl & Brett. So, I’m sorry its late…This week will have LOTS of exciting things to do, beginning with Trivia at the Breeze on Thursday and this Friday Forage will reopen for the Season. Sunday Jala will be at Room to Grow with her Early Literacy Story Time in the morning and at 1pm Heron Rocks is hosting a Family Maypole & Mayday potluck picnic at the Heron Rocks Upper Orchard. Then beginning Monday Hornby Blues Society’s Blues Week begins with the opening of the Beyond Music Art of the Guitar show at the Arts Centre which runs till Thursday which will include a meet and greet with the artists. On Monday and Tuesday, the Instructors perform in the evening at both the Hall (sold out) and The Breeze (there are still some tickets left). Get your dancing shoes on for Wednesday for the Blues Rocks Dance Party at the Hall (some tickets still available). Sorry I’m a bit late posting the Tribune today, I had to get my taxes finished and it took longer than I planned, but I can happily say they are DONE for another year!! Now all I need to do is finish my quilt square and then I can finally sort out and post our photos from our fabulous trip to Aotearoa (New Zealand). But first lets talk about all the exciting stuff coming up over the next week and mention the Denman Bus Map and Schedule insert is in this weeks Tribune make sure to save for future reference. This week begins with Games night at the Breeze featuring music bingo, then on Saturday Hornby Rec has organized a beach cleanup at Big Trib from 1 to 3pm (bring your own bags) and later in the evening Molly Blaze turns 30 at JoeKing with a West Coast Barn Dance Party. On Sunday HIRRA is hosting a Moderated Re:Generation Governance & Succession Planning talk at the Hall and on Monday HICEEC is hosting its Spring Business Mixer at the Sea Breeze. Next Wednesday Dr. Froehner’s Five Week Spring Chronic Pain program begins, contact the clinic for more info and JoeKings family Social starting at 4pm followed at 6pm by Joes Café Schnitzel Fest with Live Jazz with Tony, Darryl & Brett…On a somber note I would like to also mention there is a Celebration of Life for Sarat Colling on Saturday April 25th at New Horizons - Doors at 1:30 Ceremony at 2pm - In honour of Sarat, you are invited to bring your memories to share together in loving recognition of her time with us. Kia Ora…We are Back on Hornby…. what an amazing trip, so many incredible sights, birds and new family members. Glad to be home, still trying to adjust to the current time - but looking forward to our next visit as well….Now that we are back, what to do (other than our list of house chores) If your into gardening, there is a Work Party happening at the Depot Garden tomorrow (Thursday) 10am-1pm (bring your lunch and tools) and then later in the evening gather a few of your friends for dinner and then Trivia at the SeaBreeze. Don’t forget the Natural History Centre is now Open Saturdays 10-1pm, also on Saturday the Art Centre is hosting Phoenix Bee in an Intimate Fusion of Art and Melody by Donation – doors at 7pm. And Sunday the Hornby Eagles are having a Work Party at JoeKing after their 10am AGM….
