Talon began building his career while still in high school and, at just 21, has already gained six years of experience working within Indigenous-led organizations, serves in board director roles, received youth leadership recognition, and is building Nipin Public Relations from the ground up.

The reality of working in public relations in Indigenous sector✨

Lately, the hate directed toward Indigenous people and organizations has become much more open and aggressive. The political climate under Danielle Smith has, in my view, contributed to an environment where people increasingly confuse freedom of speech with a licence to demean Indigenous peoples and cultures.

There is a difference between expressing an opinion and spreading hatred or racism. Not long ago, comments like some of these could have carried serious professional consequences. Now, people seem increasingly comfortable saying them publicly and treating them as acceptable.

Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from accountability.
