CDK Ransomware Attack Highlights Growing Threat Of Third-Party Risk: Experts:

Austin, Texas-based CDK, a provider of software used by 15,000 dealerships, shut down most of its systems after cyberattacks struck on June 18 and 19, 2024. CDK provides SaaS-based CRM, payroll, finance and other key functions for dealerships, and has said it expects to need through the weekend to recover from the attacks.

The saga has been reminiscent of another widely felt cyberattack, the February ransomware attack against UnitedHealth-owned prescription processor Change Healthcare. The incident caused massive disruption in the U.S. health care system for weeks — preventing many pharmacies and hospitals, as well as other health-care facilities and offices, from processing claims and receiving payments.

CDK Global says it’s making progress on bringing dealerships back onto its core platform, more than a week after a ransomware attack crippled its systems.

EU wants Google, Facebook to start labeling AI-generated content:

BRUSSELS — In a bid to clamp down on disinformation online, the European Commission wants tech companies like Google, Facebook and TikTok to start labeling content created by artificial intelligence without waiting for digital laws to come into effect.

Text, video and audio created and manipulated by artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT and DALL-E have been increasingly spreading online. The Commission is now calling on dozens of large tech companies that are part of its voluntary anti-disinformation charter to make it easier for people to distinguish facts from fiction.

Google does not sell your data. It's worse: When you migrate handing over your data control to the cloud, you lose your privacy control to start with. As cloud services such as , , , , , or are becoming a so-called "popular" custom clouds of business processes, companies must deal with new security issues, such as loss of control about confidential data. The problem here is that when third-party file-sharing services are used, the data is usually taken outside of the company's IT environment, and that means the data privacy settings are outside of the company's control. And because most cloud services are designed to encourage users to back up their data in real time, a lot of data that wasn't meant to be shared can also end up being viewed by personal Not authorized.

Article:

Google doesn't sell data, but discloses it via real-time bidding (RTB) systems. Privacy concerns arise as personal data is shared with advertisers, blurring the line on data "sales."

Around 250 scientists from around the world signed a petition recently to the United Nations and World Health Organization outlining their concerns that "cellular and cordless phones [2G, 3G and 4G networks] … and broadcast antennas," amongst other radio frequency emitting devices, may produce cancer risks due to the electromagnetic field (EMF) radio waves they produce. De

"Effects include increased cancer risk, cellular stress, increase in harmful free radicals, genetic damages, structural and functional changes of the reproductive systems, learning and memory deficits, neurological disorders, and negative impacts on general well-being in humans."

Living organisms at all levels, the scientists added, are affected by exposure to electromagnetic fields produced by smartphone devices and transmission towers.

"Damage is not limited to humans as there is growing evidence of harmful effects in both plant and animal life."

Tests in mice exposed to EMFs for nine hours a day over a two-year period also experienced changes in their nervous system, including the brain, heart and te**es. Increased cell death was also reported. One needs to bear in mind 5G technologies did not exist at the time this research was conducted.

Some researchers argue exposure of young children to emitting devices is much more damaging due to their smaller skulls and skull thickness and the increased exposure to their brains.

Germany's Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) has called for a thorough investigation into the health risks posed by the new 5G technology.

Fears surrounding mobile phone use and the possible effects of radiation on the human body are mounting. As Germany begins a new 5G network rollout, DW takes a look at whether this new technology is bad for our health.

ChatGPT: A Scammer’s Newest Tool
Cybercriminals are exploring the various uses of the AI chatbot to trick people into giving up their privacy and money. Here are a few of the latest unsavory uses of AI text generators and how you can protect yourself—and your devices—from harm.

The best way to avoid being fooled by AI-generated text is by being on high alert and scrutinizing any texts, emails, or direct messages you receive from strangers. There are a few tell-tale signs of an AI-written message. For example, AI often uses short sentences and reuses the same words. Additionally, AI may create content that says a lot without saying much at all. Because AI can’t form opinions, their messages may sound substance-less. In the case of romance scams, if the person you’re communicating with refuses to meet in person or chat over video, consider cutting ties.
