Brewing up Innovations for the Cloud:
Cloud Brewery is an R&D company that creates products that make OpenStack work for business. One of the ways that we contribute to this growth is ongoing innovation. Our team is always managing a backlog of projects, all of which are devoted to enhancing OpenStack functionalities or making OpenStack integrate better with business processes. We rele
ase some of our work back into the open source community, and some we keep for ourselves to secure our intellectual property. At the end of the day, if we can’t make a compelling business case for a new product, we don’t build it. Our OpenStack Story:
Two years ago, when our founders began building the first OpenStack public cloud in Canada, they realized that OpenStack out-of-the-box wasn’t a turn-key solution that was going to integrate well with their business model immediately. For example there were very limited ways for them to track usage and bill their customers, the user interface was not as user friendly as other cloud solutions, and there were other technical difficulties and inefficiencies that the team came across. Out of necessity, and right from the beginning of their OpenStack journey, their public cloud had a research division to address these concerns, whether it was formalized or not. They needed to innovate and create products for themselves to make their OpenStack deployment work for their business and to work for their customers. In many ways, their public cloud was Cloud Brewery’s first customer. Cloud Brewery is Born:
Since our team began working with OpenStack in 2012, we have contributed to over ten OpenStack projects and have created five proprietary OpenStack modules that are running on in production today. We closely monitor customer feedback, and as we come across ideas for improvements we develop solutions and implement them into the production environments of our beta testing partners . The public cloud is a real world, real-time testing facility for the innovations that we create. Cloud Brewery wouldn’t exist without our public cloud, and our public cloud wouldn’t be so great without Cloud Brewery.
