Those around Dunnville this weekend are likely well aware of the ongoing Dunnville Grand Tour, kicking off its final run today. An expected 500-600 riders took part, riding along routes ranging from 25 km up to 160 km.

The event doubles as an annual fundraiser for True Experience, with roughly $40,000 raised in 2025 according event Organizer Attila Elek.

The Haldimand Heat U17 2010 girls are taking their golden summer east after an undefeated run at provincials earned them the chance to represent Ontario on the national stage.

The team will head to the Eastern Canadian Championship in Fredericton, New Brunswick from August 20-23.

After 8,025 kilometres, eight flat tires, and more than two months on the road, Caledonia resident Caleb Leary can finally say he cycled across Canada.

Leary’s 71-day journey took him from Tofino, BC on May 21 to Cape Spear, Newfoundland on July 31, 2026.

He rode to raise awareness for animal shelters, sanctuaries, and rehabilitation centres across Canada, raising $3,400 in donations as well.

A new corporate elections policy has closed the doors to community groups looking to host all candidates debates at County-owned facilities ahead of the Fall 2026 municipal election.

While the County states the policy is meant to ensure fairness, transparency, and public confidence in the electoral process, local organizations say the lack of access could make it more difficult for residents to hear directly from candidates.

HALDIMAND RECEIVING $500,000 TO EXPLORE FUTURE ENERGY GENERATION IN NANTICOKE

Haldimand County is receiving $500,000 from Ontario Power Generation to support preliminary exploration of potential uses for the former Nanticoke Generation Station site to help Ontario meet its growing energy needs.

Energy and Mines Minister Stephen Lecce attended the site today to make the announcement, noting potential uses for the 900-acre property could include nuclear, hydrogen, or natural gas energy generation.

No decisions have been made on which type of project may be considered for the site, nor is a project guaranteed to proceed. However, the funding marks a significant step forward in determining best uses and undertaking consultations between Haldimand County, the province, neighbouring municipalities, First Nations, and other stakeholders.

Caledonia's Domenic Barresi recently returned from a 12-day trip to Germany where he participated in Athletic Canada's NextGen program, which identifies and supports athletes in the transition from local to international competition. Barresi is hoping to run all the way to the 2028 Olympic Games.
