Microsoft has just given CSP buyers an extra month. Don’t spend it waiting.

Usage-based billing for Microsoft 365 Copilot Business is switching on by default. It kicks in on Oct. 19 for direct purchases and Dec. 1 for purchases through a CSP partner. It applies to new subscriptions, additional seats and upgrades.

If an IBM audit letter landed tomorrow, could you hand over eight quarters of ILMT snapshots?
This quarter is easy. The older ones are where programs come apart: generated once, saved to someone's drive, gone when that person moved on.
That history is the price of the sub-capacity discount.

IBM lets you license a 4-core VM instead of its 32-core host, as long as you can prove it with quarterly snapshots kept for two years. Without the proof, you're licensing the host at eight times the quantity.

The hardest part of Oracle licensing isn't the processor math. It's everything that gets switched on by accident.

On one estate we work on there's a flag from 2022 for an option nobody bought, and everyone who would have known why has left. No way to tell an auditor whether that was a DBA clicking around during an upgrade or three years of production monitoring.

Enterprise Edition arrives with the paid options installed and allowed. We used to tell clients there were no restrictions at all, which turned out to be wrong in a fairly annoying way. There is one. It covers two packs out of dozens, and it ships set to allow them.

Run Oracle's own usage script this quarter, then write down the context while the people who remember are still here. The script is the easy half.

Microsoft has removed Teams Events from Teams Premium. If you bought it for events, your renewal will be a downgrade.

This week, MC1479512 was made available worldwide. The Teams Events features are now divided into two categories:

1. The Foundational category includes the Business, Frontline and student Education plans.
2. The Advanced category requires Teams Enterprise, that is, Office 365 E1, E3, E5 or Microsoft 365 E3, E5, E7.

The new Teams Premium licence sits in neither category. Most event features moved to Teams Enterprise in April, so the Premium licence you buy today includes none of them. If you bought before 1 April, you're covered until your term ends. The change takes effect at renewal, not rollout.

Capacity has changed: Foundational plans allow 1,000 registered attendees, Advanced plans 3,000. For more, you'll need an Attendee Capacity Pack (5,000-100,000, one per organizer).

The key question is whether the people organizing your all-hands and customer webinars have the right licence, and whether anyone has checked the size of the events already scheduled for Q1.
