Technical Breakdown:

Preparation: Cleaning the board, securing the stencil, and applying the exact consistency of solder paste.

Forming Solder Balls: Using hot air and flux to transform paste into uniform, shiny solder connections.

Inspection: Cleaning with isopropyl alcohol and visually verifying the height and volume of the solder balls down the length of the board.

Merging the Boards: Using a bottom pre-heater at 190°C to safely melt the solder, allowing the top board to properly float into place without bridging or short circuits.

Watch the microscopic process of reballing the main Power Management IC (PMIC) on a completely dead 2023 M2 MacBook Air (Model A2941).

This chip features a dense 21x20 array, meaning there are exactly 420 tiny solder balls that must be rebuilt by hand using solder paste, a specialized stencil, and precise hot air. This 2023 M2 MacBook Air A2941 died completely mid-use, trapping the customer's data. Stuck at a 5V / 30mA draw with no schematics available, the diagnosis pointed to a failed sub-PMIC. But the real culprit was a cascading failure: a shorted capacitor that physically destroyed a coil, acting as a severed bridge that hid the short circuit from multimeter tests. In this video, we tackle a complex data recovery job on an S23 Ultra that refuses to power on. Diagnostics revealed a partial short circuit on the main power rail (VPH_PWR), drawing 46mA before a boot prompt. Using a thermal camera, we tracked the heat signature deep inside Samsung’s dual-layer "sandwich" motherboard.

To protect the customer's irreplaceable photos and files, we safely desoldered and removed the heat-sensitive UFS storage chip first. From there, we split the stacked motherboards, pre-emptively reballed the underfilled CPU, and isolated a dead 0.75V power regulator chip. After replacing the faulty component and painstakingly reballing the CPU, RAM, and UFS chips, the device successfully booted for a 100% full data backup!
