This National Indigenous History Month and Pride Month, we’re celebrating opportunities to do work that carries a legacy.
One example is the Starting Home Fires campaign. This is an Indigenous-led HIV awareness campaign that shares stories around testing, treatment, prevention, and care through 8 beautiful videos and 3 audio ads.
Saltmedia was hired to develop the campaign’s strategy, messaging, and delivery, including working with the partners and Indigenous Leadership team, shaping content, and leading national outreach through radio and Indigenous influencer partnerships.
We’re especially grateful to CATIE the Two-Spirit Program at Community-Based Research Centre - CBRC and Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research (CANFAR) for trusting us with this work, and for being open to marketing differently. Rather than paid advertising, we worked directly with Indigenous collaborators, so the investment stayed within the Indigenous economy in a real, tangible way. That’s always been important to us, not just as an outcome, but as part of how the work is done.
Working alongside C.I.A Solutions INC, an Indigenous-owned and led film team, was a big part of this project. They approached this work with so much care and created videos that are thoughtful, accessible, and grounded, even with complex topics that are hard to talk about. Just as importantly, they centred their work within the Indigenous economy as well.
This is the kind of work we’re committed to, not just during Indigenous History Month, but all the time. Work that carries responsibility, that’s inclusive and accessible, and has real impact beyond the project itself. It’s also allowed us to pay it forward... stay tuned!
