He has turned 100 - and experienced so many phases and styles over this past century.

Never a dull moment in the garden here in Granthams.

I leave water out for the Doe & twins... but they seem to prefer the birdbath (ceramic original by Jack Ploesser)
That matches my "Forest Pansy" Redbud foliage like a dream.
Now standing in a glorious pool of silver "Jack Frost" Bugloss foliage.
Who needs flowers!
(NO watering required)

After years of repeat ungulate visitors and reviews - I now have a great range of deer "resistant" plants.
And share the rest.

The bear ... likes the Laurel berries!
Who knew.

I always pack with my "WHAT IF" method.This is my carry on. I pack assuming it will be with me - wherever I land.But WHA...

I always pack with my "WHAT IF" method.

This is my carry on.
I pack assuming it will be with me - wherever I land.

But WHAT IF...
My checked bag gets lost or delayed.

I pack the CHECKED bag with my extra supplies, equipment and clothing.
(Depends on the destination - how fancy, warm or messy the clothes ;-)
But I pack assuming it WILL get lost and I will never see it again.

CARRY ON: My personal essentials of course. Medications, glasses, booking & contact info. Charging travel plugs, tablet etc. Water, snack, mask, ID tags.

Then I consider what would be impossible to replace or difficult to purchase at my destination. (Depends on the destination... wilderness = no shops city = shopping)
Prescription sunglasses, Compression socks, tripod, specialty papers, panel holder
My sketchbooks, favorite brushes and basic paints.

If I landed with ONLY these things - I can pick up a few clothing & bath items and still have an enjoyable, productive and creative getaway - for a week or two.
AND - have the capacity to paint and bring home those artworks - which are irreplaceable.

WHAT IF...
My phone dies, gets lost, damaged or stolen. Precautionary measures...

I carry a hard copy of my travel insurance, flights, accommodation bookings etc.
I am old school - and also keep a note book on hand with essential info.
I upload essential docs, tickets & screen shots to my Dropbox Trips folder
I keep my passwords and banking info in LastPass
I create a detailed itinerary & locations with My Maps (Google)
to access online anywhere, anytime.
I also share my itinerary & Map to family - so they know where I am supposed to be ;-)
NOTE: my phone is set to upload ALL recent pics to my Dropbox (whenever in WiFi range)
so no chance of losing holiday memories & reference shots!

Best packing trick for Plein Air...

I pack my "working" knapsack and a couple of sling/compact bags in my CHECKED bag.
Once I get to my location (after a flight) I reorganize my painting gear on a daily basis. Walk, hike, taxi, van, bus, train, boat or helicopter ;-).
I paint in my hotel or Airbnb room. Pick up a cheap beach towel as a drop sheet & bring a clip on light - also handy for nocturnes!
