Let’s Get Canada’s Blood Pumping - Join the 450 Challenge
· The demand for blood and plasma is rising, but there are not enough donors to keep up with the rising patient need. We need to get Canada’s blood pumping!
· Right now, on average across the country, there are about 230 new donors a day. To meet the growing need for blood and plasma we need to double the number of new donors.
· This isn’t just about today. This is about the future. We can’t delay finding more donors; we are falling short now and need new people to join the movement.
· We’re calling on people across the country to be one of the 450 new donors needed every day this winter. Book an appointment today, tomorrow or in the coming weeks to help fuel Canada’s Lifeline.

· Today more patients need blood products than we have seen over the past decade. There has been an increase in surgeries and treatments that require blood products, because the population is aging and growing.
· 1 in 2 Canadians are eligible to give blood, yet only 1 in 76 actually does.
This dedicated group of donors have been keeping Canada’s Lifeline going and thanks to their generosity, patients have been getting what they need.
We can’t continue to rely on this small group. We need a steady flow of new donors every day.
· If you’ve never donated before, we’re calling on you to join the movement and be part of a critical mission. By donating blood or plasma, you are joining a community committed to saving lives. Book an appointment today, tomorrow or in the coming weeks to become one of the 450 needed every day this winter.
· New donors of all backgrounds and identities are needed. Eligibility changes have opened the doors for many new donors over the past year, but we need more—and you could be one of them.
· Choose your way to donate. There are many ways to help, and each action means saving lives in different ways.
Become a blood, platelet, or plasma donor. Blood products have a limited shelf life, which is why the need is constant. One donation could save three lives.
Join the stem cell registry. You could be a match for the nearly 1,000 people in Canada who are waiting for a stem cell transplant.
Register your intent to donate organs and tissues to help more than 4,000 people in Canada are waiting for an organ transplant.
Make a financial gift. When you donate financially, you fuel important recruitment activities that help us grow Canada’s donor base.
