Australia started enforcing a social media minimum age of 16 on December 10, 2025, and the responsibility sits with the platforms to block under 16 accounts.

I applaud the goal. Kids are getting hammered online.

But in the end it all comes down to enforcement. How do you verify age without creating a privacy and cyber security mess? Some verification approaches can involve ID checks, selfies/face scans, or other “age signals.” That is a lot of sensitive data and it only takes one breach to make it everyone’s problem.

My biggest worry is that this initiative will ironically end up creating more cyber security problems rather than solving them.

Australia’s rules do include privacy protections and requirements to isolate and delete age-verification data. Good. Still, the safest data is the data you never collect.

If this trend spreads globally, we need solutions that:

- Confirm age without stockpiling identity documents.
- Keep retention near zero.
- Are independently tested and audited.

I’m all for protecting kids and we shouldn't need to build new ID databases to do it

What are your thoughts as a parent, I'd love to hear your feedback!

Parents, your router is one of the most powerful tools you have for managing your kids’ screen time and protecting your home network. Most people never touch it.

If your router was installed in the last five years, there is a good chance it already has an app that lets you control the devices connected to it. In our office we use an Eero mesh system, which lets us see every device on the network in real time and cut off internet access with a single tap. Many routers from providers like Telus and Rogers can do the same through their own apps, so you may not need to buy any new equipment at all.

This is not just a parenting win, it is basic cybersecurity hygiene. At a minimum you should be able to:

- See a list of every device that regularly connects to your home network

- Get alerts when a new device joins

- Block unknown or suspicious devices on the spot

If someone compromises your Wi-Fi, you can immediately see the device, record its IP and MAC address, and cut it off. If someone in the house connects a “burner” phone or unknown device, you will see that too instead of being in the dark.

The good news is these tools are now fairly user friendly and do not require deep technical skills.

Check out the screenshots below to see what this looks like on a sample network. If you want help turning these protections on at your place, send us a message and we can walk you through it.

We were reading a recent interview with Roblox CEO David Baszucki, and we are frankly stunned. When asked about the problem of child predators on his platform, his response was that they view it "not necessarily as a problem, but as an opportunity as well."

As a business dedicated to educating parents about online dangers, we find this mindset utterly unacceptable.

For the families we support, the safety of their children isn't an R&D "opportunity" for a tech giant, but it is the single most important thing in their lives. When platforms view the presence of predators as a chance to test new features rather than a crisis to be eradicated, our kids are the ones at risk.

Parents, please check your children’s Roblox settings today. Monitor who they are talking to. We cannot rely on these platforms to have our priorities at heart.

If you need help understanding how to lock down these devices, our door is always open. Let’s keep our kids safe, together.

I'll leave a link to the interview in question below:

Roblox CEO and co-founder David Baszucki says his game's longstanding issues with child predators are an opportunity for growth.

The Casino in the Playroom.

"Dad, can I just have $10 for Robux? Please? I just need one more spin to get the legendary pet!"

Sound familiar?

It’s easy to dismiss this as just kids wanting digital toys. But as a cybersecurity professional and former law enforcement, I look at these game mechanics and I don't see toys. I see unregulated gambling aimed directly at children.

From "loot boxes" in popular games to "gacha" mechanics in mobile apps, our kids are being exposed to the exact same psychological triggers used in adult casinos: variable rewards, dopamine loops, and the fear of missing out.

They are being psychologically conditioned to chase the "win," often with your credit card attached.

This is one of the most insidious aspects of the modern digital playground because it looks so innocent on the surface.

In my FREE workshop this week, we are pulling back the curtain on these mechanics. You need to understand exactly how these games are designed to manipulate your child's developing brain before you can effectively manage it.

Don't let them play in a rigged game. Get informed.
