One gigabit, four roommates, twenty bucks each.

Classes start soon and somebody in the house has to sort out the internet. Our 1 Gig plan is $80 a month, so a house of four splits it to $20 each, and it carries streaming, gaming, assignments and a video call all happening at once. We're an Edmonton company and we've been connecting homes here since 1993, so the people looking after it are in this city.

"We tried asking other providers to get internet service in our facility, they were all giving us the run around."

That's from a real five star Google review. We got that building connected, and further down the same review: "The guys at The Internet Centre were able to deliver everything we needed and in time."

A difficult address is our problem to solve, not yours. We've been connecting businesses from here in Edmonton since 1993, and we'd rather give you a straight answer about what we can actually deliver at your address than leave you chasing us for one.

Know a business that's still waiting on a provider to call back? Send them this.

You just finished paying that phone system off. You don't have to throw it out.

The old copper phone network is being retired, and a lot of businesses assume that means scrapping the PBX they already own. It doesn't. A SIP trunk delivers your phone lines as voice channels over your internet connection, and the phone system you already run stays right where it is.

What actually changes: you port your existing numbers, you pay for the channels you use instead of a fixed block of lines, and you add or drop them in software as your call volume moves. Point the trunks at our carriers or keep the ones you have.

We're an independent Canadian operator, here since 1993, and we run our own phone switch. We set up trunks for businesses across Canada.

See what SIP trunking would look like on the system you already run.

There's a room in our building where kids build competition robots.

Gladius and the Dapperbots are two Edmonton FIRST Tech Challenge teams. Gladius won the Inspire Award, the top honour in FTC, and went on to the World Championship in Houston. The Dapperbots finished first in their league and earned a spot at an international event in Mexico. Between builds they also 3D print assistive devices for people with disabilities.

They work out of a room down the hall from us, and we sponsor both teams. The robots, the code and the late nights are all theirs.

We've been an Edmonton company since 1993, and backing the kids down the hall is part of that. If you'd rather get your internet and phone from a local company too, have a look at what we can do at your address.

The bid form asks where the data is stored. The next line asks who operates the building, and who they answer to.

Those are two different questions, and it's easy to answer only the first one. Data can sit on Canadian soil in a facility run by a company based somewhere else, carrying whatever obligations come with that. Where it lives and who operates it are worth checking separately.

Ours is a room in Edmonton that we own and operate, staffed by our own people here. So if you're working through a questionnaire like that one, you can put a real building and a real company on both lines and check them against your own requirements.

If colocation is on your list, here's how ours works:

When you call us, a person here in Edmonton picks up.

Not a phone menu, not a queue in another time zone. Someone at a desk in this city, who can pull up your account and your street while you're still explaining what went wrong.

Most days nobody thinks about their internet provider at all. Then something goes sideways, and the only thing that matters is whether there's a real person on the other end who can actually do something about it.

We've been answering our own phone from here since 1993.

If you'd rather deal with people in your own city, here's what we do:

Moving September 1? Get the internet sorted before moving day, because it is the one thing you cannot fix that same afternoon.

The couch can sit in the wrong spot for a week. A connection that has not been booked yet is not getting sorted while the truck is still in the driveway. Transfers and installs need lead time, and the stretch around September 1 is a busy one, so give it a couple of weeks and you can be online the day you get the keys.

Tell us where you are headed and we will move your service over, or set you up fresh if the new place needs it. You will be sorting it out with a local person here in Edmonton, which is how we have done it since 1993.

The Fringe is on.

Old Strathcona gets taken over for 11 days, August 13 to 23, with over 200 shows and every ticket priced at $20 or less. It is one of those things that makes this a genuinely good city to live in.

We have been an Edmonton company since 1993, so we will be out there too. Go see something you have never heard of!

Your website says yourbusiness.ca. Your email should too.

A free email address works fine, right up until a customer has to decide whether the quote sitting in their inbox is really from you. An address on your own domain is one of the cheapest pieces of credibility a small business can pick up.

We host both together. Website and email hosting on cPanel, so your domain, your site, and your mailboxes all live in one place instead of three.

Everyone quotes you a download speed. Your workday runs on upload.

Video calls, cloud backups, big file sends, VPN, hosted phones. Every one of those is your connection pushing data out, not pulling it in. Plenty of business plans hand you a big download number and a much smaller upload, and you find out the hard way when you are the one who freezes on the call.

Swipe through the four things upload actually decides, then ask any provider for the upload number before you sign anything.

Our business fibre runs 1000 Mbps down and 1000 up with no data caps, where it is available, on a network we have run since 1993.
