Situated on Mississippi River in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the USS Kidd (DD-661) is a celebrated combat vessel from the second World War. Commissioned in 1943, this battle-tested Fletcher-class destroyer earned eight battle stars in the Pacific Theater, famously surviving a devastating kamikaze strike during the Battle of Okinawa. Recognized today as a National Historic Landmark, the ship serves as the cornerstone of the USS Kidd Veterans Museum. It is highly distinguished as the only remaining vessel of its class still preserved in its authentic, unaltered World War II configuration. After completing a historic dry-dock restoration in early 2026, the ship continues to serve as an interactive monument honoring American military history and veterans.

She is still in Houma waiting for the river to rise to return to Baton Rouge.

The historic Houmas House in Darrow, Louisiana, is an extraordinary architectural masterpiece created by seamlessly uniting three completely different design eras into a single, cohesive manor.Rather than tearing down previous structures to build anew, successive owners over the 18th and 19th centuries chose to build directly onto the existing property.

The compound begins with a modest 1774 French colonial cottage at the rear, which connects directly to a massive 1840 Greek Revival mansion that showcases towering columns and iconic wrap-around galleries.

A final addition later unified these distinct structures, creating a sprawling, interconnected estate that visually displays the evolution of classic Louisiana River Road architecture. Today, the beautifully preserved landmark serves as a public historic site, upscale restaurant venue, and luxury inn.
