Protect yourself from scams. If a prospective landlord is raising a lot of red flags, don't hesitate to ask them for proof of ownership of the home. For example, a land title, property tax bill, or condo board documents. A utility bill wouldn't cut it though, because any occupant can get a utility bill in their name.
