Rick Kroeker opened Little Rock Printing in 1994, when his son Brian was just 10 years old.

Today, the two work side-by-side as COO and President, respectively. Together, they've grown their family-owned, grassroots business into one of the city's most reliable commercial printing companies, churning out everything from brochures to signage. The secret to our success? We treat each job with the same meticulous attention to detail, no matter the size or scope of the project. We offer the access of a Staples with a convenient location and free parking combined with the print equipment of a major commercial print facility resulting in a unique service offering for all size orders and customers. Our Inglewood print facility has no boardrooms, no office doors and is full of the highest end state of the art print and finishing equipment. If you walk in to our shop you have full view of all of our equipment and all of our staff and if you call in we actually answer the phones. We have no outside sales people and our owners work in customer service on the front lines with you, our customers. We feel that the interaction with our customers is important and therefore we have our owners answer the phones, respond to emails and take your orders. Its backwards, its different and it works creating a unique experience.

Sometimes seeing your work in print is the moment a project finally feels real. 📚

That was certainly true for Exclamation Mark Literary Journal. The volunteer-run Calgary publication launched online in February, but printing a physical issue initially felt out of reach for a tiny new magazine.

Little Rock helped change that. Their inaugural print issue came in at a price they could manage, looked every bit as professional as they hoped, and has now sold more than 100 copies to readers around the world.

Did you know you can make a life-size storybook big enough to walk into?

Here's how to design one:
1. Start with one clear focal idea. A sign isn't a brochure, so use bold, high-contrast type you can read across a room. Step back from your screen: if you can't read it there, it won't work on the street.

2. Use vector art, or images at 300 DPI at final size, to keep everything sharp when printed large.

3. Set your dimensions in inches, with bleed, then export as a print-ready PDF.

Christy, a Calgary art therapist, turned a personal poem about grief into a 24"×24" coroplast storybook — four giant pages that invited festival-goers to step inside the story. Coroplast is rigid, light and durable, which is what made a hands-on piece like that possible.

1. Keep your page count a multiple of four. Saddle-stitched booklets are made from sheets folded in half, and each folded sheet creates four pages.

Even great products don't sell without professional labels and tags. Here's the easiest way to design them.

1. Start with your label's exact size in Canva, and show crop marks and bleed so nothing gets cut off
2. Keep your type legible at the size it will actually print at, and stick to two fonts or less
3. Use the same colours as your product or brand
4. Leave clean margins around any hang-tag holes
5. Export your design as a flattened, print-ready PDF, with bleed and crop marks included, using CMYK colours
