Little Rock Printing Printing and Signage in Calgary. Little Rock: The All-In Printer

Rick Kroeker opened Little Rock Printing in 1994, when his son Brian was just 10 years old.

Today, the two work side-by-side as COO and President, respectively. Together, they've grown their family-owned, grassroots business into one of the city's most reliable commercial printing companies, churning out everything from brochures to signage. The secret to our success? We treat each job with the same meticulous attention to detail, no matter the size or scope of the project. That means an

order for 50 Business Cards receives the same amount of diligence as an ongoing print contract for a major corporation. We offer the access of a Staples with a convenient location and free parking combined with the print equipment of a major commercial print facility resulting in a unique service offering for all size orders and customers. Our Inglewood print facility has no boardrooms, no office doors and is full of the highest end state of the art print and finishing equipment. If you walk in to our shop you have full view of all of our equipment and all of our staff and if you call in we actually answer the phones. We have no outside sales people and our owners work in customer service on the front lines with you, our customers. We feel that the interaction with our customers is important and therefore we have our owners answer the phones, respond to emails and take your orders. Its backwards, its different and it works creating a unique experience.

AI can get you 80 percent of the way to a design for most printed materials in seconds. What it can't do is replace the power of human creativity or give a perfect print-ready file on the first round.

Most AI tools still have limitations that make that impossible, but knowing how to write good prompts can get you a lot further than you think.

You always want to include:
📐 The size or aspect ratio of your project
🧩 An explanation of the ideal layout and where content should sit
🎨 Your preferred colours (in hex codes) and fonts (as a name or style, like "sans serif")
📏 Instructions like “keep content away from the edges” to avoid cropping issues later on.

But that's really just the beginning, and you might still need to use tools like upscalers or Canva Pro to clean the document up. Get prompt examples and other supercharged tips in our latest post:

Your printed materials should do a lot more than just sit in someone's hand.

Adding scannable triggers can turn them into a high-performance portal that brings customers to your best content, like videos, booking pages, or interactive demos.

Most businesses go with one of the following options:

📱 Dynamic QR codes that let customers scan with their phone camera to open a link
📱 NFC stickers that launch content when someone taps their phone against the chip
📱 AR image recognition, which turns a graphic, image, or logo into the trigger itself
📱 AR experiences, which give customers the power to see products virtually in their own space

Marketing tools like these are simpler to set up than most people realize, too. If you're not sure which option fits your project, QR codes are the easiest place to start.

Learn more about each one, and how to use them, in our latest post:

Finding a way to cut through the noise with online ads is more challenging than ever. Print materials land directly in the hands of your customers, on their desk or at least in their line of sight instead.

For Canadian businesses, the best formats are:
- Postcards, which can carry a potential ROI of up to 161%
- Business cards, which convert to leads up to 12% of the time
- Brochures, which influence 47% of consumers to make a purchase
- Coroplast signs, which deliver thousands of impressions for just $2-$9 per item

But just rushing out and buying the most expensive product you can find is risky. You need to know how to maximize your marketing spend by designing and marketing prints with performance in mind.

That's where our latest blog comes in:

Making prints of your latest masterpiece is a great way to sell more of your art.

And it’s a lot easier than you think when you follow these simple steps:
📷 Use indirect natural light and skip the flash to avoid glare and colour distortion
📷 Shoot straight-on so your artwork doesn’t warp or skew
📷 Capture at high resolution (300 DPI) so fine details stay crisp in print
📷 Keep your background clean and neutral for easy cropping
📷 Always zoom in and review your image before sending it to print
Ready to print? Select "FREEPROOF" at checkout, and we’ll send you a sample to make sure your photo looks exactly like the original.

If you’re unsure what size to print, the most common size for art prints in our Calgary shop is 11” x 14”. It’s the gold standard because it’s easy to frame and cost-effective to produce. 16” x 20” is a popular runner-up for a bigger gallery feel, while 8” x 10” works beautifully for compact decor pieces.

Choosing between matte and glossy paper can directly affect your print product’s readability, durability, colour accuracy, and how people will interact with it in the real world. Before choosing a finish, ask yourself:

❓ Will people read it under bright lighting? ➡️ Matte
❓ Will people write on it? ➡️ Matte
❓ Is colour vibrancy critical? ➡️ Glossy
❓ Is it photo-driven? ➡️ Glossy
❓ Will it be scanned or photocopied later? ➡️ Matte
❓ Will it be handled frequently? ➡️ Matte
❓ Is visual impact the top priority? ➡️ Glossy

The right finish can make all the difference in your printed materials. Learn more about choosing the right paper for your print project in this free guide:

The right labels can do much more than just make your business look good. They protect information, reinforce trust, showcase your brand, and stick around for the long haul (even in the fridge or freezer!).

But label decisions matter more than most people realize. So how do you know what will work best for your product? We’ve got you covered. 👇

• Paper vs. Poly: Paper works well for dry goods and retail packaging, while poly labels hold up better against moisture, oils, and refrigeration.
• Finish choice: Matte finishes reduce glare and feel handcrafted, and gloss finishes boost contrast and color saturation.
• Durability matters: Labels for food, beverages, or handled products need materials that won’t smudge, peel, or fade over time.
• Short runs = flexibility: Small batches make it easier to test products, rotate seasonal items, or update packaging without waste.
Smart label choices save you money.

If you’re using Canva to create a custom calendar this year, we have some tips:

🗓️ Always use high-res images of at least 300 dpi. If an image looks pixelated on your monitor, it’ll be even worse on paper.

🗓️ Don’t be afraid to experiment with bold layouts. In Canva, the “undo” command is your best friend if a particular design choice doesn’t work out.

🗓️ When selecting fonts for small date boxes, you should prioritize readability over style. Avoid colors that blend too much into your background.

🗓️ If you’re gifting a calendar to someone outside your province or country, remember to swap out regional holidays for their specific area.

🗓️ To get the best color and sharpness, always export your file as a “PDF Print” and select the CMYK color profile instead of RGB.

Print materials have come a long way over the years. Modern substrates are tougher, cleaner, and built to handle environmental influences like UV rays, moisture, and constant handling, but it's still important to pick the right material for the job.

Substrates like these work best:

💧 PVC is water-resistant and suitable for use indoors or outside
🏗️ Coroplast can take moisture and all but the worst weather without falling apart
🧼 BOPP labels resist smudges and moisture, which is why they're ideal for packaging
🌦️ 13oz scrim banner material stays colorful and bright even when exposed to wind and rain
📚 3mm poster board stay flat and sturdy and is less likely to warp or tear than paper
🛡️ Lamination can help protect paper from getting wet, scratched, or full of fingerprints

These aren't your only options. There are other finishes and options to choose from, and you can read all about them in our latest post:

Stickers have been helping people share ideas, promote products, and make statements for over 100 years. While tools like Canva make them easy and versatile to work with today, they started out as very plain, boring product labels that helped shippers get products to people on the other side of the globe.

Just over 200 years ago, everything changed: 🏺✨
📦 1700s: Merchants hand-glued paper labels to mark shipments
🎨 1800s: Lithography made colorful product stickers possible
☮️ 1960s: Protest and peace movements made them cultural icons
🌈 1990s: Holographic sticker sheets defined collecting culture
📲 Today: Smart, sustainable stickers link products to digital content

See how centuries of innovation turned simple adhesives and paper into one of the most creative marketing tools around today in our latest post. Plus, explore the options we offer at Little Rock!
