In January of 2001, technology in Vancouver, like in much of the world, was in a transformative phase. The city was establishing itself as a growing tech hub in Canada. Long before the NHL started streaming, the Vancouver Canucks partnered with INSINC to showcase how streaming technologies could be used to provide fans more in-depth coverage of the team.

Streaming media still seems so new, but many of the things we think are new ... have a history. 26 years ago this month the Globe and Mail's Report on Business Magazine featured an article about a Vancouver Internet broadcaster that "has turned the conventional rules of radio upside down" with programming "so intimate hosts greet listeners by their names"

Radical changes start with small steps.

A little known fact is that two of the early INSINC hosts were also hosts for the notorious Radio Caroline pirate radio station, founded in the mid 1960s off of the coast of the UK. Look it up!

INSINC was a leading streaming media company formed in 1998. In 2009 the company was acquired by TSX based NeuLion. NeuLion was subsequently acquired by Endeavor Streaming.
