ccessibility has long been treated like an expensive and unnecessary add-on to WordPress themes. I think it's time the WordPress community embraces accessibility as a baseline requirement for all distributed themes. In this post I outline the reasons why and provide first steps for those new to accessibility.

Only 0.5% of themes in the WordPress Theme Directory are accessibility-ready. Web accessibility is not an option but a rights issue and WordPress themes should be required to meet accessibility guidelines. Here's why.
