Did you know a giant wave of molasses once swept through the streets of Boston?

On January 15, 1919, a massive storage tank holding more than 2 million gallons of molasses suddenly burst in Boston’s North End. The explosion unleashed a deadly wave that raced through the city, destroying buildings, overturning vehicles, and trapping people in a thick, sticky flood.

The disaster killed 21 people and injured more than 150 others, becoming one of the strangest and deadliest industrial accidents in American history.

More than a century later, the Great Molasses Flood remains one of history’s most unbelievable true stories.
