Yeah, you can "vibe code" an app with no developer experience.
But should you?
For anyone who likes to tinker and make things, this whole vibe coding trend can be very exciting and enticing.
The pitch sounds good...
You can get exactly what you want, with no fluff, and it's cheap because there's no pesky licencing costs.
But there are a few gotchas lurking in all the spin...
First is security.
Yeah AI is great at coding, but not so much at making it secure.
Security is especially important if your home brewed app is exposed to the internet where any Tom, Dick and Harry (or their AI hacking bots) can have go at hacking it around the clock relentlessly.
Second is maintenance.
It's an old adage that any software created needs to be maintained. Vibe coded apps are no exception. Security holes still need patching. Bugs need fixing. And if that's not your full-time job it will probably get put on the back burner or forgotten entirely.
There's a reason why the big software companies haven't got rid of human developers entirely, only the entry level coders (unfortunately).
They know that the absolute best combination is an experienced human software developer who knows how to leverage AI tools to increase their productivity.
