The Athabasca Grown feasibility report on a passive solar, deep-winter greenhouse is finished and ready for your reading pleasure!

The results of a year of community engagement, expert consultations, and asking “who, what, why, where and how” have yielded a community co-designed blueprint for a “deep winter” passive solar greenhouse. The report describes a greenhouse’s relationship to, and enhancement of, the local food system in Athabasca and the region.

The report also discusses social ROI and outlines the next steps to bring this exciting, resilience-building technology to the community.

Part 2 of the Agritourism Daytrip in La Biche County

Our second stop was at Christy Creek Honey Joanne and Rob introduced us to their beautiful property and apiary!

We saw a working beehive, asked a lot of questions about bees and had fun making a beeswax luminary! Topped the visit off at the Bee Boutique, where you'll find an eclectic selection of bee-themed gift and craft items!

On October 18, I was lucky to experience some amazing agritourism in Lac La Biche County! The county has teamed with Clear Think Group (https://clearthinkinc.com/) to develop its "Cultivating Growth" Training Program.

Our first stop was at Foggy Pond Farm. Our host, Crystal, introduced us to the animals, we checked out the garden and barn and followed a trail to a beautiful wetland area.

Some local vendors were set up with artisan crafts for sale.

It was a beautiful slice of life in the Boreal, a small working farm, and a great way to get up close to say hello to some farm animals!

We were also treated to coffee and a box lunch from Pasture+Market (https://pasturemarket.ca/)!
