I'm seriously considering running for mayor in Alexandria.
Should I run for mayor or am I crazy? (Or both 😂)
I've made a really comfortable and fulfilling life for myself here as a business owner in North Glengarry and I'm willing to put it all on the line to take on this massive responsibility. I can't shake the itch of a higher calling.
I love this town and there is so much to be thankful for, but I see two huge problems in our society that we need to take serious community action on ASAP:
1. Young people are starved for opportunity and unless you inherit wealth, it's hard or almost impossible to start a family and own a home which was a normal expectation for Canadians just a few decades ago. It's ass backwards - owning stocks and real estate pays infinitely more than working with your own two hands. We need to envision a future to actually get excited about in order to keep the youth engaged in society and keep this ship afloat. Society feels like one big ponzi scheme for our youth. It takes a village and real change starts here at home. We could help make Alexandria ripe with opportunity by supporting young families, local employers, and encouraging small business.
2. We're on the verge of a population crisis and need to start planning right now to help our seniors maintain their dignity and quality of life as they continue to age and become increasingly dependent. This is an uncomfortable truth nobody is talking about but it's quickly becoming an emergency. Beyond policy, we need to instill a village mindset of care and compassion. There's no amount of funding or policy making that can fully achieve this. Only genuine compassion, sacrifice, and having a heart will. Let's instill a culture where we take care of eachother as neighbours through direct action. I'm talking volunteers and a direct local hotline if you're in need. This is our fundamental human responsibility.
It's no easy task but I think that together we could rise to the occasion and make it better to live here than ever before. Even as the world around us becomes increasingly uncertain. Not only through policies and budgets, but also through volunteerism and a renewed sense of communinity spirit. Say what you want about me... I'm great at having a vision, ex*****on and bringing attention to a cause. My heart is in this. I have so many ideas.
I would invite each and every one of you to participate directly in building our future through regular online and in-person discussions.
I'm young and I'm radical, but I'm also highly capable and what you see is what you get. Maybe that's what people have been hungry for!
All it would take is a couple hundred votes. Voter turnout last election was barely 20%.
What do you think?
Am I crazy?
