Innovation in agriculture is critical because it takes the way things have been done and moves it in a way to feed the world and help solve climate change.

We are proud to announce that i-Open Technologies is a recipient of the BC Agritech Grant, a program that helps fund and stimulate the development and testing of new technologies while increasing sustainable and regenerative food production in BC.

As an Abbotsford-based technology company, i-Open received $500,000 to develop Agrilyze, its data-driven analytics platform for precision agriculture, the first of its kind in BC and part of the world’s first interactive, operational planning software for autonomous agriculture.

Together we are solving problems that weren’t solvable because now innovative brains are looking at it differently!

We are proud to spearhead an exciting project with University of the Fraser Valley, Archway Community Services, and Fraser Health Authority, developing a tool for understanding and potentially improving food security and justice in Abbotsford.

Using the Agrilyze platform, the Abbotsford Food Asset Map is a community tool that can be updated with new data to capture changes in food assets’ locations, availability, and accessibility.

By locating the areas where individuals and families could experience food insecurity, the tool can help inform an actionable strategy to establish new assets and services that communities need, thus putting community planning into context.

Through local drive and passion, we take the first steps toward ensuring that people have enough high-quality, safe food to feed their families.

Vertical agriculture is the future. It allows for year-round supplies of nutritious food with lower environmental footprints than conventional agriculture.

It also contributes to urban agriculture systems and a local mentality which increases community resilience.

In a project collaboration between University of the Fraser Valley, QuantoTech Solutions Ltd. and i-Open Technologies, the team is using the Agrilyze map-based platform to examine ways of optimizing food security and the economic and environmental benefits of vertical farming.

Once data is uploaded to Agrilyze, it will be integrated with other data to map, analyze, and examine the community-level implications of developing local vertical agriculture capacity.

First stop - Northern Greens Canada (operated by QuantoTech Solutions Ltd.), is sending out heads of lettuce through DirectFood.store for Focus Group research. Goal? To better understand the role vertical agriculture can play in local and regional food systems.

The research project also experiments with growing conditions to create high-yield and nutritious foods at low economic and environmental costs - that also tastes amazingly fresh!

Fantastic news! We've been featured in FVN - Fraser Valley News, Sports and Entertainment in an interview with Don Lehn.

CEO of DirectFood.store Colin Schmidt and Bill Tam, COO and co-founder of the Digital Technology Supercluster, engage in a great discussion around how our platform has enabled Fraser Valley producers to step up and feed their communities.

We are incredibly grateful for the Supercluster's co-investment as it has accelerated our development and time to market by 3x! We wouldn't have had success without their partnership, so thank you, DTS!

Our project is one great example of how we can build robustness and resilience in supply chains and help Canadian technology shine on the global stage!
