"Research underscores the importance of large mammals as ecosystem engineers, shaping natural processes and sequestering carbon."

KWIBI is a technology tool to record and reward large mammals' presence in an ecosystem.

In development at the Botswana Institute for Technology Research and Innovation - BITRI, it is currently under beta testing.

We look forward to launching soon.

With a growing number of studies demonstrating the importance of large mammals to healthy ecosystems, scientists are proposing concrete plans to reintroduce these animals to the wild. The return of just 20 species to native habitats, they say, could be a boon to biodiversity.

KWIBI is designed to do precisely this - benefit communities who live with elephants. KWIBI is able to geofence corridors.

The first of three social - ecological surveys currently being conducted by our team looks at the current understanding of elephant corridors, vulnerability to crop raiding by elephants and coping strategies currently practiced by farmers. The aim of the survey is to use the data to improve outreach and awareness of corridors and to investigate ways in which corridors can bring benefits back to communities living with elephants. Follow us this week as we share the details on our social-ecological surveys.

The miracle of the Okavango reminds us of the bounty that nature provides, if we let her do her thing. The juxtaposition of the source area, where she isn't protected, to the outgrowth area, where she is, is highlighted here.
KWIBI is a tool that benefits people while protecting nature.

For a limited time only, the award-winning nature documentary, 'Into the Okavango’ has been made available to all South Africans.

With the world turning to rewilding as a means to restore ecosystem balance, to mitigate the effects of climate change, it’s important to celebrate wildlife. The presence of wildlife signals a healthy ecosystem. As an African proverb puts it: where the lion walks the grass is green.

KWIBI is an African technology solution to the problem of ecosystem degradation and wildlife crime. It is currently under development at Botswana Institute for Technology Research and Innovation - BITRI.

What makes KWIBI special? It rewards people who live with wildlife.

We look forward to rolling this product out soon. In the meantime, if you would like to know more, please get in touch with us at [email protected].

Conservation isn't a nice-to-have, it's an essential ingredient in mitigating climate change.

KWIBI uses technology to restore and protect ecosystems.

“The letter focuses on six key objectives: replacing fossil fuels; cutting pollutants like methane and soot; RESTORING AND PROTECTING ECOSYSTEMS; eating less meat; converting the economy to one that is carbon-free and stabilising population growth.”

‘Despite 40 years of major global negotiations, we conduct business as usual and have failed to address this crisis,’ group says
