From 5–7 October in Menlo Park, California, the retreat will bring together entrepreneurs, partners and leaders around this year’s theme, Purpose in Action: Building Resilience, Advancing Innovation and Finding Hope in a Complicated World.

From Botswana to Napa, Bringing Africa’s Perspective to the Global Technology Conversation

This September, Martin Stimela, CEO & Founder of Brastorne, will be attending the NOVA Future Summit 2026, taking place from 28–30 September in Napa, California.

Hosted by GSMA and Wing Venture Capital, NOVA brings together leaders shaping the future of AI, connectivity, infrastructure, investment and the global intelligence economy. It is a space for big-picture conversations about where technology is going and, importantly, who it is being built for.

Martin brings a perspective grounded in building technology for the realities of African markets.

Brastorne has evolved from connecting underserved communities through accessible technologies such as USSD, SMS and voice to exploring how AI and emerging digital technologies can extend that inclusion even further. Today, that journey continues across agriculture, health and other essential services, while remaining rooted in a simple belief, innovation should reach people regardless of the device they own or where they live.

As conversations around AI accelerate globally, voices with experience building for communities often left outside traditional digital ecosystems need to be part of the room.

We’re excited for Martin to bring Brastorne’s experience, lessons and ambitions to NOVA, while connecting with fellow leaders thinking differently about the next era of technology.

For millions of people across Africa, being "offline" isn't a choice, it's a limitation imposed by infrastructure, affordability, and geography.

Too often, innovation is designed for people who are already connected. We believe the bigger opportunity lies in building for those who aren't.

At Brastorne, we've spent more than a decade asking a simple question:

How do we ensure that meaningful digital access reaches everyone, not just those with smartphones and high-speed internet?

That question has led us to build platforms that connect underserved communities to agriculture, healthcare, markets, financial opportunities, and essential information through technologies people already have access to.

Today, those platforms have positively impacted 5.9 million people across six African countries. But for us, reach has never been the end goal.

What matters is the value created:
-Women farmers increasing their incomes through better access to information and markets.
-Rural communities dramatically reducing the cost of accessing essential services and information.
-Governments, NGOs, research institutions and telecom operators extending the impact of their programmes through digital infrastructure that reaches beyond traditional internet access.

Digital inclusion isn't a challenge any one organisation can solve alone.

It requires collaboration between innovators, mobile network operators, researchers, development partners, governments and investors who believe technology should create opportunity where it is needed most.

Africa's next chapter won't be defined only by new technology. It will be defined by how many more people that technology is able to include.
