(Druk Green) was formed on 1st January 2008 with the amalgamation of Basochhu, Chhukha and Kurichhu Hydropower Corporations along with the addition of Tala Hydroelectric Project Authority. Druk Green is required to play the role of Royal Government of Bhutan (RGOB) agency, responsible for operating the existing electricity generation assets and developing the future electricity generation. RGoB is pursuing accelerated development of hydropower generation and have plans to reach generation capacity of 10,000 MW by 2020 through bilateral projects with GOI, Public-Public and Public-Private projects. As Druk Green will continue to grow and expand its business, the dependency on reliable and timely availability of information will also increase. In this context, for Druk Green creating and developing an appropriate Information Technology (IT) Unit till end of 2011 and subsequently upgrading it to Division and merging Druk Green's Telecommunications facilities with IT thereby changing totally the name from IT Unit to ICT Division starting from 2012 and drafting Strategy becomes more relevant. Druk Green has come up with appropriate ICT governance structure along with implementation of strategic policies and procedures to effectively adopt and manage information communication technology. However, currently Druk Green faces following challenges related to its ICT operations:
• Lack of reliable last mile connectivity at its remote Hydro Power Plants which
are spread across the country.
• Lack of skilled man power within the country.
• Lack of easy access to latest technology within the country.
