“Yaguara Libre” mural

Yaguara’s gaze now looks to the wild once again.

I painted this street mural in honor of Yaguara, the jaguar who was rescued as a cub during Bolivia’s devastating 2024 wildfires and has now been successfully reintroduced into her natural habitat.

Behind this moment are months of care, monitoring, learning, and a pioneering conservation effort that made her return possible. What was once a vulnerable cub is now back where she always belonged—free in the forest.

This mural honors the tremendous feat of rewilding Yaguara and celebrates the dedication of the conservationists, veterinarians, and caretakers who helped make her journey home possible.

Today, her gaze is no longer one of survival, but of freedom.

“Amazonía Viva” mural for the offices of the headquarters.

This mural is of special significance to me because of my connection with the founders of the . I feel fortunate to have grown up alongside Dr. Mark Plotkin 🌿 and conservationist Liliana Madrigal 🐆 who started this NGO in 1996 and have since been working towards strengthening indigenous land tenure, sustainable management, and biodiversity conservation throughout Latin America. ACT believes in a “biocultural” approach where supporting indigenous communities (the original guardians of the forest) becomes the most effective way of protecting the land. They have helped protect millions of acres of indigenous territory specifically in Colombia, Brazil, and Suriname with a particular focus on indigenous communities in voluntary isolation. I have always had a tremendous respect for their organization and this mural is an homage to their 30 years of dedication to the conservation of wildlife and indigenous culture. 🐾

For more info on all the species of plants shown in the mural 🌿 listen to the podcast with the incredibly knowledgeable Dr.Mark Plotkin and be marveled by the science of the rainforest in all its splendor.

“Jessy” Madre Jaguara 🐆 Mural painted with .nature
Ipacarai Jaguar Biological Station & Eco-Lodge

The experience of painting this mural with Gustavo and his team at .nature was one full of wonder and excitement. I couldn’t believe that I was so close to this wild animal that has been my muse for many years now. 🐾

In the past couple years eight jaguars have been recorded in the area, with names being assigned to them such as: Pipatón, Yarima, Magdalena and Jessy. Once I learned about Jessy, the grandmother of Magdalena, I knew I wanted to paint her image as the protagonist of the mural. As a mother she has been a great contributor to her species and as a grandmother even more. I hope to come back soon to Colombia and paint more of her jaguar legacy. 🐆

Ipacarai is not just a biological station, they run an eco-lodge focused on sustainable eco-tourism and bird-watching. A lovely stay in the Colombian wilderness for all those who love big-cats and consider themselves nature enthusiasts.🌿

Thank you for existing 🐆

and thank you to the farm dog “manchas” for the motivation 🐶
