I haven't worked on one of these in a while... Quite the refreshing project this one.
It reminded me how bad a "real tech" can screw a simple piece of equipment... Reminded me of my first full rebuild of a Mark IV A/B that actually got some traction on the web... the one that I quite literally pulled out from the grave because of a "certified tech" botched it. But this Studio Preamp actually feels like home. A few years ago everything started with my SP2C mods. First locally, then almost like wildfire - worldwide. There are SP2Cs on every continent now. For a small, one-man-operation boutique builder that's a lot!
I remember SPs piling up in my workshop and I was wondering if they will keep coming. And suddenly everything escalated, turning me from a full time mixer/producer and part time amp builder/modder into what's literally the other way around. Now I mix whenever I can find time between amp projects. Lesson learned - always be open for the things life will offer you and don't be stubborn just because you planned one thing and something else came along and changed your course. I love both careers, but working with my hands was always in my DNA... Creating stuff, designing and prototyping, using my actual education (kind of) in a very niche market - it makes me really excited, proud and really loving this journey!!
