Insights from Datadog's 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟬:

𝟏. 80% of AWS container users have adopted Lambda

𝟐. 86% of Lambda users rely on Python or JavaScript (via Node.js) for their functions. The other 14% is comprised of mainly Java, .NET Core and Go functions.

𝟑. Almost 50% of all AWS users have now adopted Lambda.

AWS CEO Andy Jassy on how 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬:

“If you're an existing enterprise and you're just seeing your world through the lens of your current market segment share, and you're not thinking that there's a chance that a startup you’ve never heard of, or maybe doesn't even exist today, might disrupt your business with a better idea, and you're not already experimenting and iterating quickly, you're going to find yourself on the wrong end of that equation.”

That's how Uber beat taxi companies, Airbnb smashed hotels, and Netflix and Spotify changed the entertainment space forever.

On the flipside, 3 of the 5 biggest companies in the world (Amazon, Microsoft and Google) are fighting for control of the cloud.

𝐎𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝟑𝟐% 𝐨𝐟 𝐔𝐊 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐈𝐚𝐚𝐒 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫'𝐬 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐮𝐩 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥.

Meaning most enterprise disaster recovery strategies are incomplete at best.

This comes directly from over 200 IT decision-makers in a survey conducted this year.

The cause of this problem?

𝐋𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬, according to 66% of these decision-makers.

Leaving proprietary and customer information vulnerable isn't acceptable. Especially in the age of data.

And because cloud experts are still extremely hard to come by, the role of 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 that can deliver expertise on demand is vital.

Only leaders who are willing to experiment and not wait months to hire an in-house expert can quickly overcome this issue.
