First-generation immigrant entrepreneurs and international students aspiring to entrepreneurship rated their likelihood of choosing hypothetical locations that had various levels of business costs, competition, government support, and ethnic and nonethnic social network support.

A UT professor's study shows that highly educated immigrant entrepreneurs are uniquely positioned to have more options about where to start a business.

Social entrepreneurs with a migrant background are developing more effective and humane solutions to deal with migration issues head on, warranting the attention and support of our public and private decision-makers and institutions. The expertise of these social entrepreneurs stems from their own experience either as migrants themselves or descendants of migrants.

Here are 10 recommendations to build an ecosystem where social entrepreneurs with a migrant background are supported and their impact is amplified by public and private actors.

Hemus Technologies, in the framework of the european Migrant Talent Garden project (MTG), has successfully organized capacity training events for migrants, especially young ones, who want to develop their entrepreneurial skills and aspire to start a business.
An immense amount of people attended the free online events, which were delivered by experts with many years of experience in the field.
Useful educational material along with all the presentations that were used during the seminars has been shared to the beneficiaries.

MTG approach is based on innovation, exploration, research and analysis. The project aims to tackle high unemployment of young immigrants by bringing industry experts together in a multinational entrepreneurship support program.

The consortium will take action so as to support entrepreneurship in Europe by setting up a business support network and training program, setting up an online migrant support platform and setting up incubators for young migrants in Northern and Southern Europe. The activities of the project will allow young immigrants to cultivate and realize their business ideas!

Research: Why Immigrants Are More Likely to Become Entrepreneurs

Entrepreneurship can provide immigrants and return immigrants with opportunities for upward mobility and integration. What’s more, it contributes to job creation and innovation in the society at large.

A 12-year study found that both voluntary emigration and entrepreneurship were associated with a higher propensity for risk-taking.
