🚀 New project collaboration

How can you describe the excitement one feels when participating in a project that’s a melting pot for facilitating high-quality, interoperable data across a trans-European level? 🌍✨

Takin.solutions will be one of the partners that, under the auspices of the European Union 🇪🇺 and within the framework of its Digital Agenda, will be part of the upcoming inaugurated ECHOLOT project. The European Union and its cultural heritage institutions boast a large volume of heritage objects and data, spanning from ancient times to the modern day. 🏛️📚

This is why the Union is moving forward with deploying AI-enhanced workflows 🤖 to support the creation of semantically rich and interoperable data, under the human supervision of experts in DH to promote research and take a step closer to the democratisation of data in the research realm. 🔍💡

Takin.solutions will support the identification and reuse of semantic data models that support different research aims and workflows and build crosswalks for their interoperability.

The data produced will be validated and tested in five case studies presenting a wide spectrum of CH actors, where Takin will also play a supporting role in aiding the adoption and deployment of appropriate modelling for different scenarios.

The project aims to set the ground for broader European efforts related to digital-heritage data practices. This initiative is part of the project, funded by the .🧩📊

Stay tuned for more information about Takin.solutions’ new quests in the Digital Heritage realm. 🌐✨

Takin.solutions| Supporting the Next Generation of Digital Researchers – VOL. IV

Throwback Thursday to just last week, when our trainees RocĂo and Eleni UniTe / UniversitĂ  degli Studi di Teramo presented the advances of their PhD topics in the faculty of their university.

Both students have just commenced their third and second year respectively, and we at Takin our more than happy to support their research endeavours on reconstructing different micro-history case studies with the use of ontologies, and the challenges they carry in historical research. Rocio's work focuses on the Canary Islands and the Forgotten Stories of Amazigh Resilience from slavery to freedom (1450-1550), whilst Eleni's topic explores the formation and expression of the Greek identity in the Greek diaspora in Venice (1460 - 1600). Both projects are leveraging a Digital Humanities methodology.

Surely we will have more posts on their advances to share with you shortly! Keep in touch :)

✨ Celebrating Getty Provenance Index's Nomination for the Apollo Award in Digital Innovation ✨

It is a great pleasure to see that the Getty Provenance Index(https://www.getty.edu/databases-tools-and-technologies/provenance/) has been nominated for the prestigious Apollo (https://www.facebook.com/ApolloArtMagazine/) Award in Digital Innovation (https://apollo-magazine.com/digital-innovation-shortlist-apollo-awards-2025/). The newly relaunched Getty Provenance Index uses semantic data modelling to create a rich, event based representation of hundreds of years of art provenance data. It's a treasure trove of art historical information, allowing scholars to explore artworks, provenance events, sales events, people, groups, textual works, manuscripts and more to understand their connections, interactions and untold stories.

This represents the culmination of a multi year effort by the dedicated GPI team at Getty Research Institute and their rich collaboration with the team at Getty Digital. It's a true digital humanities success story.

On top of that, it has delivered and will continue to deliver a valuable resource in itself and an exemplary approach in creating semantic linked open data for research.

Takin.solutions is proud to have played a supporting role to these teams in consulting on the semantic data modelling and ETL process and Arches system design (https://www.thesemantictakin.com/) for this important resource.

It is truly impressive the leap forward that the Getty team has made possible by the transformation of this rich resource into a semantic data hub for provenance research.

We wish the very best of luck to the Getty Provenance Index in this competition — award or no, it's a powerful and impressive resource that we are sure will support art historical research into the future.

ICOM 2025 — Live from Dubai

Although our team is currently spread across Europe and Asia on different research missions, we’re taking a moment to share some exciting news from Dubai.

Yes — it’s warm.

But even warmer was the atmosphere as we celebrated our participation in ICOM 2025, one of the leading global conferences in the cultural heritage sector.

Yesterday, our CEO, George Bruseker and Pavlos Fafalios (https://users.ics.forth.gr/~fafalios/) - Assistant Professor at the Technical University of Crete, introduced participants to the core principles and practical insights of CIDOC-CRM (https://cidoc-crm.org/), the leading ontology for cultural heritage data modelling.

Supporting the work of the ICOM Documentation Committee and its mission to help the museum and cultural heritage sector preserve our tangible and intangible heritage is something we at Takin.solutions are proud to contribute to. We share the same enthusiasm for being part of such a high-profile and international environment.

Here’s to more moments like this.
And let’s raise our glasses (E22 Human-Made Object — if we interpret object literally 😉) to a meaningful and inspiring experience in Dubai.

📢 The tools to use Nomenclature for Museum Cataloging linked open data (LOD) have found a new home! 🏛️

We’re excited to announce a new collaboration. Starting in November 2025, these tools will be hosted by Laval. This collaboration will bring together two vocabularies (Nomenclature and Laval University’s Répertoire de vedettes-matière) under one roof and facilitate the sharing of technology and expertise.

➡️Tools to use LOD: The Nomenclature website, SPARQL endpoint, application programming interface, content negotiation and dataset download will be functioning as normal, and there will be no impact for users.

➡️SPARQL endpoint interface change: The SPARQL endpoint interface will look different but will maintain the same functionality.

➡️Semantic resource view: The semantic resource view will be temporarily unavailable. We will inform users when it is available again.

🔗 Access to the tools will remain the same: https://page.nomenclature.info/apropos-about.app?lang=en

Takin.solutions | Supporting the Next Generation of Digital Researchers – VOL. III

Throwback Thursday to just last week, when our trainee Rocío [UniTe / Università degli Studi di Teramo] presented her PhD topic to the general public in Las Palmas (Canary Islands). The cozy setting of a local bar created a relaxed atmosphere where people could listen to Rocio's talk on the enslaved past of the Canary Islands’ inhabitants.

More specifically, the talk, entitled “Enslaved Guanches, Canarians, Gomeros, and Palmeses in the European Markets: From Servitude to Freedom,” traced the journeys of individuals who were once treated as commodities in European markets and later regained their freedom. It explored how their personal stories reflected broader transitions from enslavement to liberty.

This conversation was especially meaningful, offering locals a glimpse into how Canary Islanders negotiated their identity and freedom. As you can imagine, the attendants were deeply engaged and received the talk with great curiosity and enthusiasm — the same excitement we feel while sharing this post!

At Takin.solutions, we are proud to support initiatives that reach beyond academia, connecting research with local and international communities.

We can’t wait to see Rocío continue to thrive in her research and storytelling journey!
