During the Belgian Economic Mission to Türkiye, Thomas met several Belgian ministers, including Minister Theo Francken.

It was an interesting moment, because you rarely get the chance to speak with people whose work has an impact on the country and on Belgium’s role abroad.

Unexpected, but definitely a highlight of the Belgian trade mission to Turkey: getting the opportunity to talk about VAEngineering in the VRT news.

A great chance to share our story, what we do, and how we see opportunities for collaboration in Turkey and beyond.

Another fascinating part of the Belgian trade mission to Turkey: visits to ASELSAN and TÜBİTAK.

What stood out most was not only the scale of the organizations, but especially the strong focus on high-tech development, research, and innovation. From advanced technologies to applied R&D, it was impressive to see how engineering, science, and industrial expertise come together to turn ambitious ideas into real-world solutions.

Innovation at this level does not happen in isolation. It requires strong collaboration between research institutions, industry, engineering teams, and long-term technological vision, something that was clearly visible throughout both visits.

For us at VAEngineering, these exchanges are particularly valuable. They provide insight into how different innovation ecosystems operate and reinforce the importance of continuously learning, adapting, and thinking beyond today’s challenges.

More highlights from Turkey to come.

During the Belgian trade mission to Turkey, we had the honour of visiting the Mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk together with the Belgian delegation for a wreath-laying ceremony.

Moments like these are a reminder that international missions are not only about business and innovation, but also about understanding history, culture, and the relationships between countries.

It was a meaningful moment to pause, reflect, and appreciate the broader context in which international cooperation takes place.

A special experience as part of an inspiring and intense week in Turkey.

Another inspiring stop during the Belgian trade mission to Turkey: a visit to Technopark.

We were given an impressive overview of how industries, startups, research institutions, and technology partners work together to accelerate innovation. Seeing this level of collaboration and ecosystem thinking in action was genuinely inspiring.

Thomas also had the opportunity to represent VAEngineering and introduce how we support innovation through our expertise and engineering capabilities. These exchanges are exactly why trade missions matter: learning from different ecosystems, building connections, and exploring where collaboration can create value.

One thing is becoming clear during this mission: the days start early, the schedule moves fast… but the amount of inspiration and opportunity makes every alarm clock worth it.

Another impressive stop during the Belgian trade mission to Turkey: a visit to SEDEF TAIS Shipyard.

As engineers, we often spend a lot of time focused on concepts, calculations, and designs. But seeing how an engineered idea eventually comes to life on such an enormous scale… that is something else entirely.

Walking through the shipyard and witnessing the sheer size and complexity of what is being built was genuinely impressive. It is one thing to engineer something on paper or in CAD, it is another to stand next to the final result and simply think: wow.

At VAEngineering, we strongly believe that good engineering does not happen only behind a screen. Understanding how something is actually built, assembled, and functions in the real world is essential to becoming a better engineer. Having that connection between design and reality helps us create solutions that are not only technically sound, but also practical and buildable.

Visits like these are a powerful reminder of why engineering matters: turning ideas into something tangible, functional, and sometimes truly massive.

The mornings on a trade mission start early. We had the opportunity to introduce our company, share what we do, and discuss our ambitions and plans for Turkey with fellow Belgian companies, ministers, and Her Majesty the Queen.

These moments are valuable because they go beyond formal meetings. They create space to exchange ideas, discuss opportunities, and better understand how Belgian expertise can contribute internationally.

And yes, for those following the story from the first post: lesson learned, this time I made sure to dress properly for breakfast!

One week ago, we kicked off the Belgian trade mission to Turkey, and from the very first hours, it was clear: no time would be wasted.

An early wake-up call, a flight to Turkey, and by around noon we were already diving straight into business.

Our first stop: Baykar. We had the opportunity to get a short tour of their impressive facilities and gain insight into the pace and scale at which innovation is happening.

More importantly, we had the chance to present what we as a company can bring to the table and pitch our capabilities directly to the management team. These kinds of conversations are exactly what makes trade missions valuable: connecting expertise, exploring opportunities, and building relationships.

A strong start to an intensive and inspiring week. More highlights from the mission to follow!

One lesson learned: always dress sharp, even for the flight. You never know when you might unexpectedly end up in a picture with the Queen… and realize you may not exactly be dressed according to protocol 😅

You want to make your product smarter, but you don’t know where to start.

That’s not a weakness. It’s the most honest place to begin.

“Smart” can mean different things and go in many directions. Our role is to guide you in those choices and build what fits you.

We help you define what “smart” should mean, focusing on what is important for your user.

Smart isn’t about doing more. It’s about doing what’s needed.

You come in with an idea or a working prototype, but a lot of key decisions are still not clear.

At VAE, we make clear what the system needs and think ahead to reduce risks later, such as:

➡️ Product feasibility
➡️ Component choices
➡️ Firmware architecture
➡️ Thermal management and EMC
➡️ Design for manufacturing

Those decisions determine how the system holds up in the real world, and that’s why we go through them while things are still flexible, so problems don’t show up later when everything is already locked in.

We do this to help you build a product around your goals, because the right outcome isn’t about the highest specs, but about what works for you.

👉 What is the most underestimated technical challenge in your project?
